Kamias or Bilimbi juice may sound sour and weird but it is one of the cleanest tasting fruit shakes i have ever tried. Kamias juice shake is super refreshing too!
My first time to taste it was some 20 years ago back when my mom was experimenting with her juicer. My recent encounters with kamias juice though was while devouring Zubuchon lechon!
So we visited an aunt over the weekend, and she gave me a bag of kamias among other fruits that grew in their backyard. I was just asking for malunggay leaves actually but she gave me various fruits and dahon dahons.
Anyway, i immediately remembered the Zubuchon shake and decided to make some the following day.
Kamias Juice Shake
Yummy of course, but the kids have been wincing due to the tartness — asim kilig, literally. But i told them about the many health benefits of drinking kamias juice.
Livestrong.com and Inquirer.net both published articles on the medicinal benefits of Kamias. Both articles mentioned that it helps control diabetes, hypertension, allergy symptoms, cough. It also improves bone health and increases metabolism. It also aids in constipation.

Kamias Juice Shake Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup Chopped fresh kamias
1 cup ice cubes
1/4 cup water
2 – 3 Tbsps of Honey (start with two then adjust to taste).
*If you do not have sugar issues and you do not have honey at home, you can make a simple syrup by boiling 1/2 cup white sugar and 1/2 cup water. Start with two tablespoons as well until you reach your desired taste.
Procedure:
Put everything in the blender and blend for about 45 seconds or until smooth. Serve immediately in sugar crusted glass of desired!
Tip: you may want to freeze your fresh kamias fruit so that it will be cooler and yummier the next time you blend your kamias juice shake.
