"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
1 John 1:9
Matte makeup is one of the more popular types of makeup products in the market. It is sought for its even coverage of blemishes, shine control and more natural look.
Matte foundation in particular covers imperfections giving the impression of a blemish-free and fresh-looking skin.
Like skin blemishes, sins are unsightly to God’s eyes and the only way to cover them is through Jesus’ love and mercy. His ultimate sacrifice covered the darkness of sin and ransomed us from the perils of evil: “For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” Matthew 26:28
If we will only confess our sins to the Lord and repent, He promises to take all our sins away and even cover it so that He doesnt see it again “Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered” (Psalm 32:1).
Let us take comfort in knowing that if we decide to move forward from our sinful ways and abide by the Lord, He will renew us, remove the blemishes of our heart, and forget about our mistakes “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more” (Isaiah 43:25). And regardless of the gravity of our sins, He can cleanse us and renew our purpose in life “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:7
And while we savor the Lord’s mercy and forgiveness, we are called to show mercy to others too. In his epistle, St Peter reminds the church that “love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8). When we forgive others, we in effect cover their failures and mistakes that have hurt us, and move on with our relationship with them.
Yes, it may be hard to forgive and forget but our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has modeled this to us. He also requires us to show the same compassion and mercy so that we too could earn His forgiveness and experience His peace.
Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Psalm 32 to dig deeper on today’s topic.
Reflection: Have you asked the Lord to cover your sins? Have you forgiven other people’s sins too?
Conversation with the Lord: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for forgiving me and covering my sins. Please give me enough love in my heart so I too could forgive others and forget about what they have done to me. Amen
