The street dweller
“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
Romans 10:15
Not too long ago, during the COVID-19 Pandemic, people who wanted to help street dwellers stopped in main roads to give out food.
It has become a familiar scene. One car will stop, will handout a meal box to one person, and that one person will call as much fellow street dwellers as he can so that they too can have the “ayuda” or help he has received. No one asked the person who was first to receive the ayuda to call the others, but he feels compelled to tell everyone he knows that there is free food for the hungry.
Such was what the woman in the well did upon encountering the Messiah, Jesus Christ. When she learned that the person whom she is talking to is the one prophesied to be the savior of mankind, she ran home as fast as she could to tell others about it. And many believed her story, and many came to Jesus to hear Him personally.
"Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. And many more believed because of his word." John 4:39-41
Once we get to TRULY encounter Jesus, we will have that burden in our hearts to introduce Him to those we love, and to those whom we think need Him the most. Like the street dweller who was the first to get hold of the meal pack, we want everyone else to be rescued from their spiritual hunger, and feed on the bread of life, that is Christ Jesus.
"And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also."
2 Timothy 2:2
And when we share Jesus, and the Good News of salvation to others, we will be glad to know that not only did we save another soul, we also get to inherit a great promise that the Lord gave to those who proclaim the gospel. As one preacher said, the promise found in Matthew 28:20, which says ” And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age,” is a covenant the Lord gives NOT to the Christian who is just living a relaxing life. It is the Messiah’s promise to the Christian who helps expand His kingdom, by making His Good News of Salvation known to as many people.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20
Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Matthew 28:16-20, Romans 10:14-15 and 2 Timothy 4:1-5 to dig deeper on today’s topic.
Reflection Question: Have you introduced Jesus to the people in your life? What prevents you from spreading the good news of His salvation?
Conversation with the Lord: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for empowering me to preach the Gospel. Make me bold my Lord, so I could have the passion to save the Lost, and make your last command, my foremost mission. I want to introduce you to everyone my Lord, so that like me, they too may inherit the eternal life that you offer. Amen.
