I have always wondered how happy and excited I would be if I had a backstage pass during a concert of my favorite Korean pop-stars’ concert. Getting to talk to them, taking selfies, plus getting their autograph and having the opportunity to give them flowers and a gift would be bombastic.
And while most of us would dream of connecting to our favorite stars in that way, such access is something we already have with the most important being in this universe! Our King of Kings.
As followers of Jesus,we have the opportunity to come to Him to pray, give thanks, cast our cares and worship Him. This is all possible because of our Savior’s sacrifice on the cross that cleansed us from our sons and allowed us to be right with God.
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace” Ephesians 1:7
Such backstage, all-access pass is best availed first thing every morning. Giving your first moments of the day to God is like giving the first fruits of your life. When you are at your best, fully refreshed, and not yet saddled with the stresses of the day.
“Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.“ Psalm 90:14
Our Lord and Savior modeled this habit to us. He sought the Heavenly Father very early in the morning and spent time in prayer
“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.“ Mark 1:35
Jesus also showed us that we can go to the Father anytime, and bring to Him our concerns whatever they may be. He usually withdrew from the crowds to pray. He spent the night in prayer as He made crucial decisions in His earthly life and ministry like choosing His 12 disciples.
“Now it was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer with God.” Luke 6:12
He also taught us that we could come to the Father in time of dire need. This He did at the Garden of Gethsemane prior His arrest, crucifixion and death.
“Then Jesus went with the disciples to a place called Gethsemane. He said to them, “Stay here while I go over there and pray.” He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons with him. He was beginning to feel deep anguish. Then he said to them, “My anguish is so great that I feel as if I’m dying. Wait here, and stay awake with me.”After walking a little farther, he quickly bowed with his face to the ground and prayed, “Father, if it’s possible, let this cup ⌞of suffering⌟ be taken away from me. But let your will be done rather than mine.” Matthew 26:36-39
And so why don’t we take advantage of this wonderful gift that Jesus Christ has given us? Let us come to the Father each and every day to worship Him, thank Him for all that He has done and to cast our cares in Him.
When we teach ourselves to adore and seek the one true God of our life, we get to recognize His sovereignty over our lives and the good plans that He has for us. We may experience life difficulties but His peace, which transcends difficult circumstances we will inevitably face, will calm our hearts and allow us to experience the true joys of this lifetime.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to
ponder on Philippians 4:4-9 and Matthew 26:36-46 to dig deeper on today’s topic.
Reflection Question: Do you take advantage of the all access pass that Jesus came to give us so that we could spend time with the Heavenly Father as often as we want? Do you take time to worship, pray, thank, and cast your cares to the Lord?
Conversation with the Lord: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for obtaining access for us to our One True God. I truly value and appreciate your sacrifice and redemption, my Lord. Give me the confidence to come to the Heavenly Father in prayer. Amen.
