Daily devotional: The Mouse Pointer

It was in grade school when me and my classmates first saw our teacher using what seemed like a “magical pen” with a red light at its tip, and beams through the projection screen. It was amazing when she finally gave us a chance to use what we later on knew to be called a “pointer.” We were so excited because we can point it anywhere we like. Later on we discovered the fun of pointing that red light to other people, and the harm it could do if we direct the pointer’s aim to another person’s eyes.

Matthew 5:16

As present day believers, we are like “human pointers” that should aim to direct others to Christ. Our words, actions, and life should at the very least encourage them to seek the Jesus that transformed our lives, and guides our Earthly journey.

“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:1-3

When we try our best to live out the principles of God’s teachings, we subconsciously lead other people to the Lord. They get to feel His love, mercy, and care through our actions.

Practically this means the friendship we extend when no one else cares to listen to them. The time we devote to help plant seeds of faith in their children’s heart, whenever we volunteer in church. The concern we show when they are unwell physically or emotionally.

“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,” 1 Peter 3:15

The Lord uses community to show His care for us. In the same breath, He also uses His people to reach out to those who have yet to start a relationship with Him. In the busyness of our lives, let us allow the Lord to use us to get others to follow Him. It might just be a simple smile, a welcoming greeting or even a bit of time to show someone who is feeling down, that there is someone willing to listen.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

Let us remember that one person, or the various people God used to jumpstart a relationship with us. If they had not been willing to become God’s instrument to point us to Christ, then we would still be at a loss, living far from the abundant life that God through Jesus Christ came to offer.

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Matthew 5:14-16 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: Do you point people to Christ, in both actions, words, and lifestyle? What are the ways you could lead others to start believing in Jesus?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for the people you sent in my life that led me to journey with you. Thank you for making them take the time. Grant me please the confidence to lead others to you too, in words, actions, and in my life in general. Amen.
