They say that dads are most active at home during times of calamity like weather disturbances. They repeatedly check on the weather, the condition of the house, the surrounding areas, and they blast the AM radio all day to monitor the news.
My own father was like that. And though we were blessed to live in an area not prone to flooding, he was as always, checking on the roof, looking for leaks, and thanking heavens that he had the time to clear up the roof gutter and cut our overgrown tree branches just before the typhoon hit.
We may have different types of dads, and may have differing experiences about calamities but as present-day followers of Jesus, we are all under the loving care and warm embrace of a Heavenly Father who holds our hand amid the storms of life.
“The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever. The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.” Psalm 29:10-11
And as we go through the next couple of days, may we choose to focus on the love God has for each of us. May we have the faith to hold on to His promises. That both the external and internal storms of life would not manage to take our eyes away from the gracious God, who, time and again remained faithful to us, and saw through our safety and welfare.
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” Isaiah 43:2
May we always remember that as the all-powerful King of Kings, whatever hardships we face are challenges that He allows us to experience for our greater good and for His glory. And as we pray to Him to calm the storms of our lives, may we remember that a loving, all-knowing, and ever powerful Heavenly Father will never allow His children to go through something they cannot handle, to experience something they cannot learn from, and to endure hardships that will not make them better people in the end. He will be by our side, He will never let go.
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Psalm 121 to dig deeper on today’s topic.
Reflection Question: When you look back in your life, do you see God’s hand upholding you through the storms you have gone through in your life?
Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for always, always seeing to it that I get to hurdle the storms of life. Thank you for holding me still, and steadying my hand. Thank you that before you I can be still, I can surrender my worries, and I can be sure that you will always, always strengthen me. Amen.
