When we choose to honor God and nurture our relationship with Him, every single day, one day at a time, and one decision at a time, we will have in the end, a lifetime of joyful obedience.
When we make even the smallest steps to change our sinful ways, and try our best to honor Jesus in both the little and big choices that we make, we get to progress and grow in our faith. Slow progress is still progress, and as long as we get up and moveon whenever we fail, we can say that we remain on the right track in our walk with the Lord.
“The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.” Proverbs 14:27
Intentionally choosing to follow God allows us to experience peace even amid difficulties. As we endeavor to do this day after day, we will also experience joy that does not depend on our current circumstance. And at the end of our earthly journey, we can also confidently say that we have lived a good life. And indeed we can boast of that because when we choose to honor God day-by-day, He blesses us with a life worth living.
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
Practically speaking, this means choosing to use the Bible as our guide in making our daily choices, and life-changing decisions. It means intentionally spending time with God every single day to bring before Him our thanksgiving, our worries and prayers, and our requests for pardon over the sins we have committed. It means choosing to abide in Him, and become a conduit of His peace and blessing to others. And when we do all these, even one day at a time, we are assured that our efforts will not be for nothing.
“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58
