Daily devotional: The Web

One of the stereotypical descriptions of a haunted house in movies is having a lot of cobwebs. A home unoccupied for a long time, will have spiderwebs in most parts of its home, some even hanging in the living area. It sticks to unused furniture, it entangles innocent insects.

1 Timothy 6:9
1 Timothy 6:9

If we are not careful and intentional with our prayer lives, present day believers like us can also be entangled with worldly cares. We can even be trapped in a world of lies, or get caught in a never-ending cycle of acquiring worldly things and experiences, all of which eventually causing needless stress in our lives. Then there is the web of addiction, habitual sins, among other worldly traps we could easily get ensnared in if we are not careful.

“Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.” 1 Timothy 6:9

As we continue to seek Jesus, we can untangle ourselves from every web that we get caught in. Regular prayer time, Bible reading and reflection can rouse our senses, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us towards God-honoring and fruitful pursuits.

If we can only be honest enough to reach out to Jesus whenever we feel life is already spiralling out of our control, we can be able to get up from our mistakes and try once again.

“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” Psalm 16:11

When we surrender our lives to God and decide to honor Him in both our day-to-day, and major life decisions, we get to allow ourselves to be transformed by the Lord.

Likewise, by doing so, we allow Jesus to free us from the entanglements of this life that keep us from truly enjoying a peaceful existence that is focused not on impressing others or concerned on what others have to say. Instead we will get to live a life pursuing the right things, surrounded by the people who really matter, and both rooted and centered in Christ.

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” John 15:4

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Psalm 16:1-11 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: Are you caught in a web of troubles that you may have caused upon yourself? How can reaching out to Jesus improve your outlook in life?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for offering hope when I feel like I am caught in a spiral of troubles. Thank you that we can reach out to you and pray that your sufficient grace could help us endure the challenges we face, and empower us to honor you in every choice we make. Thank you.
