One of the worst mistakes we can ever do to our thought life, is to believe everything that comes to our mind. Sometimes, bad thoughts, regrets, and negativity infiltrate our thought patterns, and would influence our daily choices and actions.
No matter how persistent it may seem, we should not give in to such a thought pattern because not everything that pops into our brain is true. If it does not resonate with what God said, what God has promised, and what God has done for us in the past, we should stop entertaining the thought, much more meditate on it.
Such thoughts are lies meant to debilitate us from doing good things for the Lord, for our loved ones, for ourselves, and for others. As followers of Jesus, we are empowered to turn away from these.
“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,” 2 Corinthians 10:5
When plagued with negative thought patterns, we may want to intentionally shift our thinking into what’s true, and what is good about our situation, and those around us.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8
Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on 2 Timothy 1:7 and 1 Peter 5:6-11 to dig deeper on today’s topic.
Reflection Question: How are your thought patterns, and current thought life? Is it helping you become a better person or does it keep you stuck into the pit of depression?
Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us your words and your promises. Give us the confidence to continue invoking and meditating on it each time negative thoughts come to our mind. We know that you have good plans for us. Amen.
