Daily devotional: Great Expectations

If you have been hurt or abandoned by someone who was supposed to love you at your worst and till the end, always remember that not everyone is really capable of doing that. Your husband, your grown-up children, your bestfriend, even your own parents can fail you. There is truly only One who can love us till the end, at our darkest, weakest, and filthiest moment — Jesus Christ.

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

Let us not demand from others the love, attention, and care that only He can give. He is just waiting for us to deepen our relationship with Him.

Zephaniah 3:17
Zephaniah 3:17

“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

Not only are we receiving an everlasting love from our Heavenly Father. The kind of love He has for us is something no one can take away from us. Absolutely no one. No third parties, no criminals, no change of mind, no scenarios nor issues could take that love away from us. And that is His unbreakable, irrevocable promise.

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39.

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Romans 5:8-11 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: How does knowing that God loves you for who you are, affect you when faced with abandonment and betrayal? How can you be comforted with the thought that only He could love you like that?

Conversation with the Lord:  Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me for who I am, and for loving me at my worst. Give me the grace to remember that only You can truly do that for me, so that I could brace myself from inevitable disappointments human connections bring. Amen.
