We should cease our habit of explaining and justifying our mistakes to God all the time. Instead let us just fully entrust our lives to Him. Trust Him enough to admit our shortcomings, and ask for His help. The help to give us the strength to face reality, and the courage to change our ways.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
And when we sincerely ask Him, He will not think twice about being gracious. His sufficient grace will cover our weaknesses, so that we can be strong enough to bear our cross once again and follow Him.
“But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded” James 4:6-8
Indeed, we can ask for God’s help not just for our problems, but also for the things that we want to change. When we sincerely wish to break a bad habit or get out of a vicious sin cycle, all we have to do is to ask for His grace.
We can never do it on our own. And as soon as we recognize that fact, we will have the grace to be strong enough to say no to long-standing habits that damage our bodies, our relationships, and our character.
“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” Titus 2:11-13
Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 to dig deeper on today’s topic.
Reflection Question: What sin do you keep on justifying before the Lord? What will it take for you to admit and ask His help to get rid of the habit?
Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father thank you for being so gracious that you are more than willing to help me change and follow You. Thank you for your patience and mercy towards me. Help me to admit I cannot do it on my own, and I need your grace. Amen.
