Daily devotional: Well-lit

God does not want us to wallow in the darkness of our pain and grief. The hope He brings into our life through Jesus Christ, is meant to be the light that will help us stand up again, step away from the darkness of despair, and move forward.

John 12:46
John 12:46

” I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” John 12:46

And as we take hold of the hope that Jesus has placed in our hearts, God assures us that He will light our path. Our Savior promises that He will walk with us, and guide us through the small and big decisions that we make.

His words will not just give us the comfort and courage we need to move on. More importantly, His teachings and His commands will give us parameters on how we will live as we rebuild our lives once shattered by grief.

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105

Purpose for our pain

And in His own perfect time, Jesus will fully heal and restore us. The darkness of desperation that once enveloped us, will be replaced by the light of His love.

In time, He will empower us to shine His light to others who remain in the dark. So that they too, can put their hope in Him and see the light. In the end, we will realize that every pain and darkness we have gone through has a purpose.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for your gentle yet relentless call for me to step out of the darkness and take hold of your light. Sorry for focusing on the things that terrify me, instead of fixing my eyes on you and your unfailing love. May I have the grace and courage to move towards your light. Amen.
