What is not pleasing to the Lord is also never good for us in the long run. The boundaries He has set for us are not meant to kill our joy or keep us from being happy. They are there to protect us, and help us
live a peaceful and abundant life.
“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1:8
Not a punitive God
May we see the Lord’s teachings and commands as His ways to protect us and help us flourish. The commands He has set for us are not meant to punish us or keep us from being happy. Our Lord is not a punitive, capricious, power tripping God. Instead He is a perfect and wonderful Father, who only wants the best for us.
“For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” Hebrews 12:6
Thank you for reading our devotional today. Kindly read Psalm 1:1-3 and Deuteronomy 10:12-13 for a deeper dive into our topic.
Reflection Question:Â Do you sometimes see God’s commands as joy killers? How might knowing that He only wants the best for us make you think twice about the protective nature of His laws?
Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you that you love us so much you gave us boundaries to protect us from the bad things that could happen to us in the long run. Help us to continue to trust in You my Lord whenever we feel like choosing the easy way out. Help us remain obedient to you. Amen.
