Business Ideas for Moms in the Philippines

Looking for ways to help augment the family income? Here are some Business Ideas for Moms in the Philippines. (Photo Credits-Modified)

It is a new year, and for some it is a time to test new revenue streams and business endeavors.

Moms like us are no exception when it comes to these things, as whether you stay at home, work from home, or work out of the home full time, you always have this nagging thought of how to increase your income, or what side business you can take.

Anyway, I recently came up with a series of posts on food items that you can sell to earn an extra income. Here now are some business ideas that you may want to try out —

Business Ideas for Moms in the Philippines

  1. Sell Goodies, Preserved Food, and Sweets – Food business remains to be a great enterprise especially if you are really good at cooking, baking, or preparing goodies. Here is a link to my recent series of posts on this.
  2. Online Selling – Online selling has taken a whole new level with Facebook, Drop Shipping, and Couriers going to your own home to pick-up the goods that you will be shipping. You no longer need to get out of your home to sell unless you sell stuff you make from scratch or you want to have stocks on-hand. You can sell your own family’s pre-loved stuff – from clothes, to housewares, to books, and even appliances to as many platforms as you wish such as OLX, FB Page, FB Groups, and even Instagram. Sell it by lot to make your offer even more attractive. You can also look for a supplier, and do drop-shipping. You can sell cloth diapers, baby carriers, baby stuff, direct from divisoria items, craft materials, fabrics, and even ukay-ukay! Here is a list of courier services that you can choose from. You can also become a WAHM and craft away, have a talent in knitting or crocheting? Sell etsy-style knitted products! Got an eye for hair accessories? Make and Sell! There are infinite possibilities actually.

3. Load Business – The load retailer business has reached new heights with even more products to sell. From cellphone load to mobile internet load, to prepaid cable TV credits, and now even over the air remittances, you will surely get busy as you embark in this endeavor. Widen your clientele by asking for your husband’s help too — he can get clients for you from his workplace! Here is a link on how to become a load retailer.

4. Direct Selling/Be a Reseller — this may be the oldest type of side business for stay at home moms but it wouldn’t stay this long if it aint paying! Choose from the many items you can resell — from the usual Avon, Tupperware, Triumph, Amway, Herbalife, Boardwalk, Natasha, and the like to social enterprises like Human heart Nature, Mother Nurture and more. Check out this website for the list of Direct Selling Companies in the Philippines and their respective contact information.

5. Daily Packed Ulam Supplier – Think Sexy Chef but more mainstream, and more affordable. Well if you can do diet/organic based recipes and can find a steady clientele, well and good, but if you are targeting a more regular client base like your husband’s officemates or the employees in an office building near you or perhaps, if you are living in a compound or apartment complex then your neighbors, then basic packed food will do. You can text them the ulam offerings the night before so you can deliver it to them on a set time – or you can make it even easier for them to order by posting it on your FB or creating an FB Page altogether! Your recipes need not be complicated. In fact you can just make a big batch of what your family will be eating plus two more choices! And the best part here is you get to eat for free as well.

So there you have it. Hope you got some business ideas that can create a new revenue source for your family. So I am apparently on a roll when it comes to food business ideas that moms like us can have.

I hope you enjoyed our recent posts on goodies, steamed desserts, puto variants, and sweets that you can sell.

Now I am going to suggest to you some Filipino food items with longer shelf life that you can sell all year round. So, here is a list of —

Filipino Preserved Food Recipes for Business:

  1. Spreads – Choco spread, yema spread, Cheese Pimiento, and native peanut butter can be made from home, and do not require special cooking equipment – in fact you do not even need an oven! Just jar these perfectly, cover with sinamay, tie a ribbon around the cover, and you’ve got a nice product to sell during the holidays. Otherwise you can sell it on plain jars, and even in microwave containers. Here are good recipes for choco spread, yema spread, and cheese pimiento.
  2. Tuyo Flakes – This is not really very complicated, and is a comfort food for some! You can make it plain, spicy, or even up the yumminess level by adding capers! Here is an easy recipe to follow.

==============================================================================================

  1. Bottled Sardines – If you have a pressure cooker at home (Still don’t have one — choose and buy here) then it will be very easy for you to make bottled sardines! Just make sure to source fresh fish, and you are on your way to making a great product! Check out this recipe.
  2. Chili Oil – If you have allergic rhinitis like me, forget about this because cooking it may make you sneeze. But if you are fine with the smell of cooking chillies then go for this! Here is a recipe. This is perfect as well if you plan on having a Siomai Business!
  3. Atchara – Not all atcharas are made equal but in a tropical country like ours, you will have a lot to choose from. You can have atcharang papaya, atcharang sayote, among the many types of atchara in the market. Do not forget the flower shaped carrots when you jar these! Here is a recipe for my dad’s favorite Atcharang Papaya.
  4. Ginisang Bagoong – I just love receiving home-cooked ginisang bagoong! I remember my mom used to make these, and give these away along basket-full of Mangoes! You can make this easily and as long as you do not live in a condo or in very close proximity with your neighbors, make big batches and sell! Here is a quick recipe to follow.

So there you have it, hope you got a side business idea through my past series of posts. I will be coming up with a couple more posts on Food items that you can sell to earn a side income in the Philippines. Always remember mommies that presentation may be key but at the end of the day, it is the taste and prep that will matter and will make your clients come back for more. It is a reality that not all Filipino households have Ovens. And this is the reason why most of the native desserts in our country are steamed. Almost all homes have tiered steamers we all grew up seeing.

Anyway, this post is part of happypinaymommy.com’s series of posts on food items that can be sold for extra income. I have earlier written about no-bake sweets, gelatin-based desserts, as well as chocolate-based desserts that can provide a side business for moms like us.

So for the third issue in this series, I am suggesting to you some

Steamed Filipino Dessert Recipes for Business:

  1. Puto Leche / Leche Puto– Although the name is kind of weird, this is one happy dessert that you can sell. It is basically your usual puto in steroids because its base is made of custard-like leche flan, and the top portion is the usual native puto. You can color the rice cake any color you like too so that it will look all the more presentable and happier! Here is a very easy recipe to follow.
  2. Leche Flan – Leche Flan is one of the most popular desserts in the Philippines, and you can sell it either by the llanera or by small cups if you plan to sell it as an individual dessert. Anyway, there are a lot of Leche Flan Recipes out there – some are disappointing too – this one is really close to what my Inay makes – super creamy and smooth Leche Flan.

  1. Bibingka – Bibingka may just be more popular during the holiday season, but hey you can sell it in small portions a la bibingkinitan, package it in microwavable containers and you got a dessert/merienda/even breakfast on the go. You can either top it with red egg – yummy! Or Cheese, or kesong puti, or all of the above. Here is a quick and uncomplicated recipe you may wanna check out.
  2. Steamed Cupcake – Yes you read it right, you do not need an oven to make a cupcake. Here is a good chocolate-based recipe. Do not forget to use a nice liner, some toppings, and pack it nicely!
  3. Pichi-Pichi – If you want to sell something colorful, not so overwhelmingly sweet, but heavy on the tummy then pichi-pichi it is! You can top these with shaved coconut, cheese, and even ground peanuts! Here is a fun recipe.

So there you have it, I will be coming up with a couple more posts on Food items that you can sell to earn a side income in the Philippines. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and if you want to earn extra in this season of love, the why don’t you sell some no-bake chocolate goodies?

This is the second part of Happypinaymommy.com’s series of posts on food items that can be sold for extra income. I have earlier written about Filipino sweets like Yema Balls, Pastillas and the like – you may check out this past post here. This particular post though is dedicated for choco-based goodies.

So without further ado here are my suggested —

No-bake chocolate goodies to sell in the Philippines:

  1. Chocolate Clusters or Choco Flakes– If you are familiar with the choco flakes in Baguio like Mikasan – the one your ex-manliligaw brings home to you from the City of Pines, then you know this goodie I am talking about. For the mas sosyal, they call it Choco Clusters. You can use cereals for this like corn flakes. I suggest you just buy the local brand like Oishi, or one that you can buy from your neighborhood baking supplies stores, because it will be more economical, and will most like taste the same. But of course I am not in any way preventing you from buying cocoa frost because it will be yummier as it has double the flavor. Here is a good recipe to follow. You may pack this in a clear plastic held by a colorful bow, in a microwavable container, or pastry box of your choice.
  2. Choco-Peanut Butter Cups – Do you love Reese’s? Yes you can make something like that, package it in those nice liners that you can buy in any baking supplies stores (or even in Rustan’s or bigger supermarkets), and you can make your own Choco-Peanut Butter Cups. It will be easier to make the usual chocolate cups, but in business you gotta have an edge and offer something more unique at the very least. Here is a great recipe to follow.

(Post Continued Below)

======================================================================================

You May Also Want to Read:

========================================================================================

  1. Chocolate Truffles – I remember my Sister In Law and I attended a Heny Sison Baking Seminar before and this recipe is one of the basic recipes that she shared. Achie and I were watching Gordon Ramsay the other day and he made truffles with his kids so I made a mental note to include it in a pangnegosyo recipe, as well as a good recipe that you can make with your children (if you want some more recipes you can make with your kids click here). Anyway, going back to truffles you can never go wrong because you can actually offer as many flavors as you want – plain, dark, orange-y, even chili! Check out this great three ingredient recipe for a basic chocolate truffle.
  2. Chocolate Lollipops – Well this stuff still sells especially during occasions like Valentine’s, Christmas and Halloween. You will need molders, but hey there are a lot of affordable molds out there – you can even score some in Daiso. Here is a recipe you can follow.
  3. Candy-Dipped Pretzels or Chips – My good friend J really loves those chips dipped in choco, so why not make your own version? It may be hard to find a great packaging that will showcase the goods without it crumbling but that is part of the challenge. If you want something easier to package then go for pretzel sticks that you can dip in choco and sprinkle with whatever topping that you can think of – colored sugar, chopped nuts, candy sprinkles or what have you. Here’s a great recipe that you can follow.

So there you have it, I will be coming up with a couple more posts on Food items that you can sell to earn a side income in the Philippines. Here is hoping that if you have the time, hope you could drop by my Facebook page and hit the like button, so you can receive regular updates from Happypinaymommy.com direct on your newsfeed.

If you are looking for an extra income – whether as a full-time working mom or a stay at home mom, then you might want to consider these no-bake desserts to sell in the Philippines.

These are really easy to do, and with just enough clean and creative packaging, plus patience and sales talk, you can definitely get a loyal clientele.

If you are a stay at home mom, you can start by asking for your husband’s help in selling the desserts to his officemates, and then follow up with an FB Page where the officemates can see your other offerings. You may also join bazaars, or ask a store near you if you can sell your goodies for consignment.

If you are working 8-5 you can of course sell it to your officemates, online, to your husband’s officemates etc. The small amount that you can earn from such an endeavor will grow overtime, and who knows, you might end up focusing on this and start working from home.

No bake Filipino dessert recipes for business:

  1. Pastillas – Even your children will love helping you out on this. Just take it a notch higher by using cookie cutters to form shapes, plus some food coloring and then store them in jars or microwavable containers held by a happy-colored bow. Here is a very simple recipe you can follow.
  2. Yema Balls – You can also make some yema balls that will surely satisfy the sweet tooth of your clientele. You may wrap these in colorful paper and pack it either in colored cellophane or microwavable containers. Check out this easy to follow recipe from Panlasang Pinoy.

  1. Gelatin-Based Desserts – I have recently written about Filipino Gelatin-Based Desserts, and have mentioned in that post, that all of those can be packaged in a cup-sized container and be sold individually. Check out the past post here to get the recipes for easy buko pandan, yummy coffee jelly, crema de fruta, and more.
  2. Polvoron – Yes the simple polvoron can be taken up to another yumminess level by adding nuts, rice pops, or even choco-coating. Do not confine yourself to the usual molder, because you can find other molds in Daiso or any Japan Store. Here is a good polvoron recipe.
  3. Graham Balls – This one is gaining a lot of popularity recently, and it is actually something that your family will enjoy ma king and eating because it is not too sweet and you can choose your own topping – from powdered sugar, candy sprinkles, chocolate sprinkles, chopped nuts and the like. Here is a quick and easy recipe to follow.

So there you have it, my good news for you here is that this is just the first of the series of posts on Food items that you can sell to earn a side income in the Philippines. I will be coming up soon with steamed Filipino Goodies that can be sold, as well as no-bake choco-based desserts that can be sold (Valentine’s is fast approaching after all)!
