where to buy carrier oils in the philippines

Wondering where to buy carrier oils in the Philippines? Check out the post below.

If you are looking for stores or shops to order carrier oils in the Philippines for your DIY Essential Oil Blends and Recipes then this post is for you.

I have compiled here a list of stores and shops – both online and physical – that sell carrier oils in the Philippines. For those who are still exploring essential oils, carrier oils play an important role in reaping the benefits of essential oils for our health and well being. This is because Carrier Oils are the most common “vehicle” used to dilute essential oils since EOs are very potent and would need to be diluted. Other raw materials commonly used to dilute essential oils include Witch Hazel, Shea Butter, unscented lotions, Aloe Vera Gel and more.

Since I am no expert in this subject, let me quote Aroma Web’s information about carrier oils: “If applied to the skin undiluted, essential oils, absolutes, CO2s and other concentrated aromatics can cause severe irritation, sensitization, redness or burning or other reactions in some individuals. Carrier oils are used to dilute essential and other oils prior to topical application. The term carrier oil is derived from their purpose in carrying the essential oil onto the skin. Aloe vera gel and unscented body lotion are also commonly used as “carriers.” For the scope of this article, however, we will be focusing upon the use of natural vegetable oils as carriers.” Read Aromaweb’s full article here.

Going back to our article on where to buy carrier oils, here are—

Local stores and online shops that sell carrier oils in the Philippines:

1. Supermarkets – Yes you’ve read it right, big groceries usually sell carrier oils, like Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Sunflower Oil and even Grapeseed Oil. These carrier oils though are not found solely in the beauty or cosmetics aisle, as these oils are displayed in the cooking oil aisle as well.

You can find carrier oils in supermarkets and groceries.

The cosmetic aisle usually carries sunflower oil, and virgin coconut oil like this which I saw at Rustan’s Supermarket. The Sunflower Oil costs P299.00 per 100ml. the smaller version at 50ml meantime costs P174.70. This Grapeseed Oil on the other hand, I have found in the cooking oil section of S & R.

2. Pharmacies – Usually, pharmacies like Watson’s and Mercury Drug carry Virgin Coconut Oil of different brands, as well as Sunflower Oil. The brand Dr. VCO costs P375.00 for 250ml.

If you are looking for essential oil accessories in the Philippines, then this article is for you. My 2015 write-up on where to buy essential oils continues to be one of my blog’s top posts, hence I am writing this post.

I will be enumerating here the various online shops and physical stores where you can buy the tools for your essential oil DIY projects.

I have been meaning to write this given the spiking interest in the many benefits of essential oils. And we are just fortunate that essential oil accessories and essential oil tools are available to us here at a much more affordable cost compared to our crunchy mama counterparts in the other side of the world.

The list that I will be sharing with you are those that I have personally tried, those that are tried and recommended by people I know. But as in anything, it pays to do your own research on the lowest prices, and best customer experience.

So here’s the list of —

Where to buy Essential Oil Accessories:

  1. Essential Oil Basic Needs – This Shop from Shopee, has well all the essential oil basic needs that you will need to make rollers, blends, inhalers, salves etc. She has bottles, necklace diffusers, and ultrasonic diffusers too, plus some raw materials for essential oils. The prices are pretty much competitive if not slightly lower than other shops in Shopee. More importantly, they offer Cash on Delivery and Free Shipping to orders beyond P500.00 (and a discount in shipping for purchases amounting P250.00). The seller is accommodating too! Here’s a link to their Shopee Account.
  1. Big Pharmacies – Some huge pharmacies like big branches of Mercury Drug have some of the tools and accessories for Essential Oils which you will need. Beakers, droppers, graduated cylinders can be found here. If you are the type who measures blends via ml then you can buy disposable syringes here.

  1. Lazada – Yes, Lazada also sells Essential Oil Roll on Bottles like the blue 10 ml roller bottles that they sell for P599.00 per pack here. The 10 ml-Amber Rollers on the other hand are also on sale here for P606.00 per dozen, and it comes with five plastic pipettes. Find it it here. Most of the accessories and bottles for essential oils sold over at Lazada can be bought on a cash on delivery basis and ships nationwide.

5. The Medical Supplies Store in Bambang – Where else can you find accessories that are at bagsak-presyo levels other than this strip of medical supplies stores fronting PGH and near DOH? Yes I have mentioned this place several times in my past entries like where to buy scrub suits, as well as where to buy affordable but efficient nebulizers. Yes you can find medical grade droppers, graduated cylinders, vials, beakers, glass stirrers and more that will help you channel your inner “oilbularyo.”

6. Miniso – If you are not comfortable with buying online, or you just simply love this shop, then better head to the branch nearest you and check out some lotion, bottle, and cream containers, as well as mini-sprayers in here. They usually come in nice packs with carriers. The downside though is that they only have plastic containers, so if you are looking for glass bottles then better buy somewhere else. They too have digital weighing scales for your lotion, salves, creams etc. They too have organizers. Here’s a link to their official website. Most of the sets that I have seen (mostly packed for travel toiletry sets) cost P99.00 per set.

With the growing number of essential oils enthusiasts in the country, the demand for an efficient ultrasonic essential oil diffusers continue to grow.

Fortunately good quality diffusers are available to us here in the country, and those that are sold abroad can be easily shipped here, taking out the guesswork as to where to buy diffusers in Manila.

For those who are still on the lookout for a diffuser in the Philippines here’s a list of online and physical stores —

Where you can buy Ultrasonic Essential Oil Diffusers in Manila:

1.Direct to the Manufacturer — Young living, Plant Therapy, and Eden’s Garden all have their own line of diffusers that they can ship either via USPS, through a Cargo Forwarder, or Direct to your doorstep. In my experience, this is my most recommended route (second to buying these specific brands from trusted local sellers), because these are the diffusers that work great granting you follow the capacity for the space/room measurement and of course number of EO drops to use.

Looking for Baptismal Party Souvenir Ideas for your christening or Dedication celebration in the Philippines? Here are some Suggestions. (Photo Credits to E Clay Souvenirs and Accessories)

One of the concerns of most parents who are about to have their baby christened is the Baptismal Souvenirs that they will give away to their guests.

There are tons of ideas out there, and it can get overwhelming really. There are a lot of considerations in choosing for Baptismal souvenirs, and apart from matching the theme, it should of course fit the budget, and for me – it should be practical. Practical in a sense that it would not just get tossed by the guests as soon as they come home from your party.

After attending too many binyag and dedication parties in the Philippines, and seeing a lot of possible souvenir items out there, here are some of my suggested –

Baptismal Party Souvenir Ideas:

1.Succulents – Giving out succulents is somewhat cool, and of course, can be useful as a plant décor in your guest’s home or office. It is not so expensive too as it can go as low as P40.00 each in Dangwa. For those who may not have the time to brave the traffic to that part of Manila, then it may be best to just order online – after all some stores can customize a greeting and a label for each pot. Check out my past post on this to get the list of online and physical stores that sell succulents for giveaways.  Below meanwhile is a photo of one of the souvenirs that Go Green Giveaways supply to their clients. Check out their FB Shop here.

2. Baby Cologne Spray – This is fun and fab especially when nicely packaged like this one from Provence Fragrances. Of course clients get to choose the scent and according to Provence Fragrances, their clients often choose kiddie scents for kid-related events such as baptism and first and seventh birthdays. The kiddie scents match the sticker label which has a theme/design related to kids, price range is usually around P40.00 to P60.00 per bottle. Here is a link to their FB Shop.

 3. Scented candles on a jar or tin — These are welcome gifts for me as it is always relaxing to light up a candle during stressful days. Check out Party Favors PH’s FB shop here.

4. Hand sanitizers — talk about useful stuff, this one will surely be used up by your guests especially if you were able to choose a generic clean scent that they will like. You can do a DIY hand sanitizer here, or go the hassle-free route and order from various suppliers out there like The Gift Corner. The gift corner can feature the name of your child and then the date of his christening in front, and then some of his stats at the back portion of the bottle. Price range is at P25.00 to P40.00 per piece with a minimum order of 30 pieces. Clients have five scents to choose from and they can request for the color of the gel that will be used for the sanitizer. Check out their FB Page here.

5. Kiddie stool — it may be too big for your guests to lug around but hey most parents say they have been able to use it at home as well — kiddie stools or stools for home service manicuristas (haha very titas of manila). One of the highly recommended suppliers is Handicrafts Atbp you may check out their FB Shop here. I canvassed from different stores and the price range usually for mini stools is at around P90.00 to P95.00 apiece and then a bigger kiddie stool at around P185.00 per piece.

6. Anything on a mason jar — yes, the mason jar is useful already to begin with now put in something sweet and yummy, then that will be a great giveaway to bring home. Some put candies, color coordinated jellies or mallows, cookies or what have yous in the jar and tie it up with a cool ribbon and piece of cloth to match the event’s color motif. Check out my past post on where to buy mason jars and candies for candy buffet if and when you will allow yourself to be bitten by the DIY bug. Do not forget to find ribbons in this past post too!

How to Make Homemade Kid-Friendly Hand Sanitizer

Here is How to Make Homemade Kid-Friendly Hand Sanitizer.

Looking for a great give-away for your kid’s party, or you just plainly want to make one that is safe for your school-aged child to use?

Here are some recipes of Homemade Kid-Friendly Hand Sanitizer:

  1. Lambanog or Vodka Based Hand Sanitizer – This recipe for hand disinfectant as published by Growing Up Herbal  makes use of 80-proof vodka which you can substitute with local and cheaper alternatives like the lambanog. If you do not have aloe vera plant at home you can even buy an aloe vera gel in any pharmacy. Citrus essential oils can meantime be brought here http://ho.lazada.com.ph/SHGlR2, or you may want to check out my previous post on where to buy essential oils.
  2. Aloe-Vera Based Non-Toxic Hand Sanitizer – If you have an Aloe Vera at home then make use of it by extracting the gel and turning it into a non-toxic hand sanitizer for your kids! You can always propagate some if you want to have a steady supply of free homemade natural sanitizer. Here is a good recipe from Wellness Mama. Apart from Aloe Vera Gel, you will have to add Tea Tree Oil extract for the extra all-natural Anti-bacterial property. You may find Tea Tree Oil Extract here.

  1. Vinegar-Based Hand Sanitizer –— Could just be the easiest natural hand disinfectant to make, however one may be hesitant to use it considering the sour scent of vinegar. Well, as shared by Mom.Me here, adding some drops of Lavender essential oil can do the trick. After all, even on its own, the scent of vinegar will definitely dissipate. Buy Lavender Essential Oil here.
  2. Tea-Tree Oil Based – Is a non-aloe vera-based chemical-free hand sanitizer that has great anti-bacterial properties. It mainly makes use of castile soap, and Tea Tree Oil and distilled water placed in a recycled spray bottle. Get the step-by-step instructions here. You can buy tea tree oil here and Castile soap here.

So there you have it, I hope you were able to choose a great kid friendly hand sanitizer for your child to use. I will be updating this post as soon as I discover more chemical-free hand disinfectant recipes.

Moms, especially those that cloth diaper their little ones usually worry about the presence of ants during ant season – which in the Philippines, happens to be almost all year round.

And while there are a lot of insecticide and spray solutions that can address this concern, not all are safe to be used in the home, especially when there are babies around.

I have rounded up some baby safe and natural ways to get rid of ants. Some are using a DIY Solution, some homemade sprays, and some are meant to prevent them from inside the home – especially on our baby’s cloth diaper stash! So here are:

Natural and Baby Safe ways to kill ants:

  1. White Vinegar Spray Solution – This could just be the best and most baby-friendly ant-prevention solution there is. Just pour some white vinegar in a spray bottle, and spray where the ants are. If you see a trail? Spray on and watch them leave the trail and get dizzy. Do not worry about the sour smell as well, because it will dissipate, and in fact help deodorize a room. If the smell is too strong for you, you may want to add in 10-12 drops of either lemon, tea tree, eucalyptus or peppermint essential oil (buy it here), and then dilute the solution a bit with water, then shake before spraying.
  2. Use Baby Powder – While inhaling baby powder is definitely not safe for your little one, you can carry out this ant-killing experiment when your baby is not in the same room. Just sprinkle some powder on the ant trails, and watch the pesky creatures get disoriented.

(Post Continued Below)

==================================================================

You may also want to read:

===========================================================

  1. Sprinkles of Cinnamon Powder – Ants love sugar, but they hate other spices, especially Cinnamon and Pepper. And since pepper should be out of the question when babies are around as t may trigger allergies, and can even be ingested, cinnamon should be a great solution. Sprinkle in the ant trail, and you will soon see the ants disappear.
  2. Bay Leaf Plug – Bay leaf or what we locally call as “Laurel” can be used to prevent ant infestation the natural way. Just put some fresh or dried bay eaves in areas where you see ants converging, or in areas where they seem to come from.

If all else fails, and you would really want a strong and effective ant infestation solution without using really heavy chemicals then you might want to give Borax a try. Again borax is poisonous and should be kept out of children’s reach. Here in our country, Borax can be purchased from local hardwares (not ace, not handyman, and not True Value, but your neighborhood hardware). In the recipe that it shared, DIY Hangout says all you need is sugar, borax, warm water, cotton balls, and shallow containers. Of course you will need to KEEP THE CONTAINERS OUT OF CHILDREN’S REACH, but this promises to be an effective solution. Check out the step-by-step procedures here.

So there you have it, I am sure there are other Natural and Baby Safe ways to get rid of ants. I will be updating this post as soon as I learn more.

Where to buy Supplies for DIY Candy Buffets in the Philippines

Doing your child’s own candy buffet? Here’s where you can Where to buy Supplies for DIY Candy Buffets in the Philippines. (Photo Credits)

More and more moms are becoming practical nowadays that they try DIY projects for their children’s stuff (like cloth diapers, wipes, accessories), and even supplies like Fabcons – I wrote about it here, and even detergents etc.

Parties of course are a huge expense especially if your family is the type to hold big events. A cost-efficient method is to resort on DIY for some aspects of the party – or for more adventurous and crafty mommies – DIY the whole party itself.

I earlier wrote about where to find DIY Party Supplies (read it here), and I have monitored that it is one of my widely read posts. Now I am giving you a more specific blog entry that deals with one dainty, fun, and yummy aspect of any family event – The Candy Buffet!

So for mommies out there who are doing a DIY on their little tot’s candy buffet, here is –

Where to buy Supplies for DIY Candy Buffets in the Philippines:

1. S & R – S & R stores can provide your needs for chocolates and sweets. Here you can find big packs of imported chocolates, candies, and gummy stuff kids usually like. Check out their website here for their branches. If you are not a member, you can ask any member-friend to tag you along!

 2. Chocolate Lovers – Where else can you find all those sweet and yummy treats sans the packaging that you will not need but at Chocolate Lovers? They have a branch in Cubao, for inquiries and directions to the store here is a link to their website.

(Post continued below)

====================================================================

You may also want to read:

===========================================================

3. Sweet Craft – If you live near the Shaw Boulevard area then go to Sweet Craft, it is near Dansalan Gardens and yes you can find a lot of baking needs, as well as candies and sweets for your candy buffet. Here’s their FB Page.

4. Online and Brick-and-Mortar Baking Supplies Stores – If you have a baking supplies store in your neighborhood, then better check it out because they will be selling those sweets you can readily put on your candy jars! They also have the gummy jellies, candy coated chocolates, the works basically. They will most likely have online shops to like Bakers’ Basket Baking Supplies  (apart from the sweets they have all those dainty items and decors that you will need), Little MJ Baking and Party Supplies  (also for those dainty stuff for the candy buffet).

5. Divisoria – Well you have to be discerning about this if and when you will decide to source chocolates and sweets here – as you know there are unscrupulous sellers that may sell counterfeit candies and chocolates, or even expired goods. I am not saying this is the case in all of the stores in the area, but we better be mindful about all these especially since candy buffets attract children the most. What I can tell you though is that you can get supplies for the candy buffet table here like the jars, decorations, liners and the like. Special mention for the famous Tabora Street, and Lucky Chinatown Mall.

6. Dapitan Arcade – If you are looking into nice jars, serving wares and the like then Dapitan Arcade is the place for you. Super affordable prices even for unique pieces! After the party, I’m sure you can reuse the wares you’ve bought from here in all your other events, or even as your home decor.

7. Department Stores – You will be surprised because tiered plates and nice jars and other stuff you may use in your candy spread are also available in your nearest department stores. Just be more imaginative! Department stores you ay want to check out include Robinson’s Department Store Galleria Branch, SM Makati, and Landmark Makati.

8. UPDATED MAY 13, 2016: Sugar and Spice Manila — If you want Pinterest-style sweets wrapped in fancy papers, the head to Sugar and Spice Manila’s FB shop, and let your mind be dazzled with the many wrapping designs and yummy sweets they have to offer. Check out their page here.

9. UPDATED JUNE 23, 2016: Joshua Gummies: I have come across a lot of Moms who made their DIY candy buffet with supplies coming from this FB Shop, so you may wanna check them out. They have gummies, jellies, pika pika, and more importantly packages for DIY candy buffets if you do not want to get bothered with thinking of candy combinations. Here is a link to their FB shop.

10. UPDATED June 23, 2016: Candy Corner PH: Remember those stalls we try so hard to avoid when we go out in the mall with the kids in tow? Yes you can shop online via their website, plus they can even have party carts for you or make the DIY Canddy buffet for your child’s party altogether! Absolutely no hassle on your part, so if you’ve got the extra moolah for it then might as well get them as your supplier. Here is a link to their website.

11. UPDATED: August 4, 2016: MaraElla’s Party Supplies Store — If you are from Cebu then this may be the Candy Buffet Supplies Shop that you should be ordering from to also save up on shipping fees! They have gummies, chocolates, and other sweets that can fill your DIY Candy Buffet Jars and Serving Wares. Check out their FB Store here.

So, there you have it. I am sure there are other places and Online Shops where you may buy Supplies for DIY Candy Buffets in the Philippines. I will be updating this post as I discover more shops. If you have the time, hope you could drop by my Facebook page and hit the like button, so you can receive regular updates from Happypinaymommy.com direct on your newsfeed.

Are you looking for materials for headbands and hair accessories in the Philippines? (Photo Credits)

If you are thinking of making your daughter a headband, a bow or hair accessory — or probably becoming a WAHM and start an online business selling headbands then this post is for you.

I have compiled a list of places where you can buy materials for DIY headbands and hair accessories in the Philippines.

Some may be physical shops which is ideal for those who are thinking of selling their finished products, while some in the list are online — perfect for crafty mamas who are not out to buy a lot.

Where to buy supplies and DIY materials for headbands and hair accessories in the Philippines:

1. Divisoria — this famous shopping landmark is home to stores and stalls after stalls of materials for DIY headband and hair accessory supplies and materials. Tabora street in particular has a lot of supplies for you to choose from (i have featured this street in my posts about mason jars, DIY Cloth Diaper Sewing Supplies, Fabrics, knitting and crocheting supplies, among others). Add to that the sewing supplies and stalls along Ilaya and you are in crafters’ heaven!

2. Quiapo — the first time my friend J brought me over at Wellmanson in Quiapo, i went dizzy over the many, many DIY and craft materials to choose from at absurdly low prices! Check out this craft hub and you will never regret. Of course do not forget to drop by the Quiapo church first and visit the Nazareno 🙂

3. Malls — like what i have mentioned in my post regarding DIY knitting and crocheting supplies, some major malls also have craft shops that you may want to check out. Start with the department stores first — for example in SM Makati they have a sewing section and usually they have ribbons, laces and bows in there. Other stores you may want to check out are Carolina’s Lace shoppe — they have branches in Glorietta and SM Megamall (plus a couple of other branches).
4. Online stores — There are plenty of online stores that sell materials for headbands and hair accessories. They include:

  • Bowaholics.com which has grossgrain ribbons, character ribbons, raw materials for making headbands be it platic or metal, Anti-Slip grip for Clips, and the like. Here is a link to their website.
  • Michelle’s Ribbons and Lace Center — This FB store has yards and yards of ribbons, hair clips, basic headbands, craft materials, and DIY Hair accessory supplies in stock! Check out their FB Store here.
  • UPDATED: JULY 8, 2016: Pretty Clipz — If you want to do DIY Grossgrain Ribbons, elastic headbands made of glittery and dazzling stuff, hats, and more then this is the Facebook-based shop for you! Check out their online store here.

So, there you have it. I am sure there are other knitting and crocheting supplies shops in the Philippines. I will be updating this post as I discover more. If you have the time, hope you could drop by my Facebook page and hit the like button, so you can receive regular updates from Happypinaymommy.com direct on your newsfeed.

Buy DIY Party SUpplies in the Philippines

Want to throw a DIY party? Here’s where you can buy DIY Party Supplies in the Philippines. (Photo Credits)

Parties are fun, but it could be very expensive. And this is why most moms who would like to save up on their children’s parties would want to try the DIY or Do-it-yourself route in some (or all) aspects of the party they are throwing.

There are many places where you could buy DIY Party Supplies in the Philippines. In Manila for instance, Divisoria is the most common bagsakan area where you really could buy everything you would have wanted for your DIY Party in Manila at a super cheap cost.

But not all moms have the time and energy to trek to Divi. So for those moms this post is for you.

Where to buy DIY Party Supplies in the Philippines:

  1. Divisoria – The malls in Divisoria like 168 has all the party needs that you may like.. from balloons, to decorations, to give-aways, and game prizes, they have it all at a tiny fraction of the cost that you would have to shell out if you were to buy in malls! At the same time you may also head to Ilaya and Tabora Streets (yes the same streets where you can buy some DIY Cloth Diaper Supplies and Fabric which I wrote about here and here) for other DIY supplies.
  2. Malls – Some malls have party supplies shops that sell DIY party goods minus the stress that comes with divi shopping. These include the bazaar area in Market, Market Taguig (I think it is named Eden’s), Celebrations Party Central in Rockwell Powerplant Mall (dizzying Pinterest-style stocks, super fun!), Invitation House at Greenbelt 5 (nice pinterest-style craft materials – you can also order customized birthday buntings in Manila here, as well as invites, personalized chocolate wrappers, and the like). If you are from the San Juan or Quezon City area, then you may wanna check out the party supplies stalls over at V-Mall and Greenhills particularly Regina’s. Toy stores like Toys R Us also have a party supplies aisle, and so with big book stores!

===========================================================

  1. Department Stores – If you are gunning for a pinterest-worthy candy buffet but you want to remain on budget then check out the displays over at Landmark Makati, SM Department stores (the bigger ones like that in SM Makati has a lot in store!), as well as Robinson’s Department Stores. They have nice tiered muffin/cupcake holders, Giant Mason-Jar like juice jugs, as well as other wares that you may use in your candy buffet!
  2. Dapitan Arcade – Again, if you are aiming for an “instagrammable” birthday spread, then head on over at Dapitan QC (yes the same place where you can buy super affordable Christmas and Home Decors) and check out the homewares there that are usually unique, can be classic – can be avant garde! I am sure you will buy more than what you intended to buy which is actually bad for the budget but happy for your mommy heart.
  3. “Odd Ball” Stores – If you are from the South then you may want to check out Uniwide Warehouse along Sucat Road. I earlier included this place as a great location to shop for cheap and cheerful Christmas decors, but hey they have great DIY Party supplies too  but it is up to you to rummage and look around in their big warehouse. For those in the QC Area, head on over at Katipunan, and across La Vista – I am sure you know this if you are from the area – you will see Shoppersville Supermarket. Go to the second floor and there you can buy the bamboo pabitin stuff if your party will be needing such, and they also have pinatas among other games for the parties. They also have super cheap but funny-looking candies that will remind you of your gradeschool years (hello Moony and Mikmik, and Lala)! They also have plastic balloons, divi toys etc that you can put inside your party lootbags. They also have other party favors, party hats, and banners. Another useful tip – they also customize cakes at a very affordable price – check out their bakeshop. You may also wanna go around your neighborhood to check out your community party supplies shop. If you do not need a lot, then Toys R Us also has themed plates, hats, serving wares, and lootbags, plus balloons for you, which are actually very similar to what you can see in Rustan’s Supermarkets!
  4. Facebook Shops – There are many facebook-based shops that sell party supplies, but here are some you may wanna check out: My Little Party Shop Manila – has super nice party supplies for your theme parties which include serving wares, buntings, decors and balloons – here is a link to their FB Shop. If you however are looking for the online Divisoria type of FB Shop for your DIY Party then check out Party Items Express for hassle-free shopping. They have balloons, decors, party favors, special game prizes, loot bags, as well as other craft supplies. Check out their FB Page here. Marykiel’s on the other hand has various types of balloons as well as other DIY Party supplies in the Philippines. Here is a link to their shop.
  5. UPDATED: June 23, 2016: 854 Party Mania Is a haven for DIY Party moms! And why not they have almost everything that you could ever need. They have a store in Divi, but they have this website (which according to them is only surf-able via google chrome), where you can place your orders. Check out their stuff, it is very affordable as well! Here is a link to their website.
  6. UPDATED: June 23, 2016: Party Basics Online — This is the same line of party products that you usually see in malls and stores. Yes they have an online shopping platform so you can avoid the traffic and shop at the comforts of your own home! Here is a link to their website.
  7. UPDATED August 04, 2016: Party Pieces by Zoey — Is another party supplies shop that offers nice and creative DIY supplies like plates, lootbags, decors and even invites. Check out their FB shop here.
  8. UPDATED August 4, 2016: Mara Ella’s Party Supplies — Is a Cebu-Based Party supplies shop that has a wide array of loot bag fillers, party bags and pails, DIY Decor and more. Check out their FB Store here.

So, there you have it. I am sure there are other places and Online Shops where you may buy DIY Party Supplies in the Philippines. I will be updating this post as I discover more shops. If you have the time, hope you could drop by my Facebook page and hit the like button, so you can receive regular updates from Happypinaymommy.com direct on your newsfeed.

My regular grocery shopping list usually comes with a big pouch of my family’s favorite fabric softener. Lately though I want to venture on making my own homemade version, not only to save on costs, but also to be more gentle on our trusty washing machine.

You see, according to Engr. Google, the black specs that I recently discovered in the bottom of the WM drum can be attributed to excessive fabcon use. I was able to remedy the situation by running a hot soak, with some vinegar solution. I figured, if we will be able to use more natural ingredients, the problem may no longer recur.

You see, for Shobs’ diapers, we only use vinegar as softener when the inserts get kind of stiff. For the kids’ clothes we hardly use any. But the mister and I long for soft and mild smelling clothes, hence the use of fabcon.

Anyway, as always, I’ll be sharing with you what I have researched on how to make homemade fabcon.

How to make homemade DIY Fabric conditioner in the Philippines:

1. Vinegar-Based. Ladies who are kind of apprehensive about using vinegar, listen up. The smell evaporates after 15-20 minutes and will just leave your clothes smelling fresh. This recipe, meantime, has an improved scent because you will be using the essential oil of your choice. Here are the ingredients: Three Cups of White Vinegar, half a cup of baking soda (baking SODA not BAKING POWDER), and about 10 drops of your favorite essential oil scent – you can buy it here, in the scent that you like. If you however want a pure, strong essential oil, then you may want to try this line, which you can buy here.

2. Super Cheap. If you do not want to spend anything anymore and just want to source ingredients from your own home, then this is the recipe for you. It just uses hair conditioner, white vinegar, and water. Get the directions here as shared by one of my favorite homemaking websites, One Good Thing by Jillee.

3. Simple and Neat. This one is fairly easy, just substitute Epsom salt with our usual rock salt. Again, you can get your essential oils here. Check out the procedure as posted at Everyday Roots here.

So there you have it. Hope you could indulge your inner DIY Diva soon and try out these homemade fabric conditioner recipes.

Just like clay, kids could not get enough of bubbles. I have earlier written about homemade clay, and in as suggested by my dear Achi, I have also decided to publish bubble recipes that are very easy to make.

Achi and I have been exploring a lot of bubble recipes, from the simple Gumamela me and my playmates made during our childhood, to the more modern ones that are “copycat recipes” of those being sold at the toy stores. Anyway I made sure to reco recipes with ingredients that are locally available.

Here are some Easy DIY Bubble Recipes you can make with your kids:

  1. Traditional Pinoy Street Bubbles – I’m sure most mommies can relate with this. Just get powdered detergent, water, pounded hibiscus or gumamela , and bam! You now have a homemade bubble solution! For the bubble wand we usually use walis tingting that time, or ask our yaya or dads to make us one using alambre. Drinking straw can be used as well but make sure your kids are old enough to not sip the solution.
  2. Giant Bubble Recipe – Achi and her playmate super-super enjoy making giant bubbles out of this recipe from happyhooligans. It is very easy to make too! Just make sure you have some glycerin at home (you can buy some at Mercury Drug for about 30-40 pesos per small bottle).

So there you have it. I hope I have given you enough bubble recipe choices to try with the kiddos. I suggest that you keep the bubble wands and containers that your kid has used up so that you can re-use them with these DIY Bubble solutions. To say that kids love clay will be an under-statement. If I want Achi to not bug me a lot during the day so that i could post in my blog, all I have to do is to give her her clay box and she will while away her time.

The good thing here is that we do not have to buy clay for the kids all the time. We can actually make one with them, and let them play with it. So basically it is like shooting two birds with one stone!

Here are some DIY Clay Recipes you can make with your kids:

  1. No Cook Play Dough – This recipe calls for super simple ingredients that is most likely available in your pantry! Check out this no-cook recipe from homeschooling-ideas.com here.
  2. Soap Clay – Are you looking for a clay dough recipe that smells good? Then head on over at clay-it-now.com and check out this recipe  You may however need to run to the pharmacy to buy some glycerin (yes I bought a small bottle at mercury for our DIY bubbles at around P40.00), and some Tapioca Starch.

 3. Cloud Dough – Achi super super loves this! It really pays to have food coloring on hand since it makes cloud dough more fun! It is super easy to make and smells good too! Check out this recipe from happyhooligans.

4. Super Easy DIY Play Dough – Australian website Best Recipes has this super easy to make DIY Play dough recipe that even little achi can make! Check it out here. I promise no special trips to the store because it only needs flour, salt, oil, and food coloring. It is that easy!

5. Gelatin-Based Playdoh – Do you have a gelatin box lying around the house? This is the best time to make use of it. Check out this easy DIY Play Dough Recipe from the website Modern Parents Messy Kids. Enjoy!

Wondering where to buy sewing machines in the Philippines? (Photo Credits)

If you now want to take your DIY-ing to a whole new level and have decided to buy a sewing machine then this post is for you. I recently came up with a series of posts on where to buy sewing supplies as well as fabrics for your cloth diapering DIY project, you may want to check them out here.

This time, I have compiled a list of places where you could buy sewing machines in the Philippines, both online and brick and mortar stores. This is close to my heart since my mom is an avid sewing enthusiast and she has a couple of machines in our home, mostly singer ones. She has a nice sewing machine like this, a serger (which she calls edging machine — whatever that means), and she has a vintage one too.

So here is the list of where you can buy sewing machines in the Philippines:

1. Direct to Manufacturer/Importer – popular brands in the country are SINGER and BROTHER and they have their own outlets. Singer has stores in Abad Santos, Manila; Makati City, and Cebu CIty.  Brother has a showroom in Marajo Tower in Bonifacio Global City. Ive been researching about Juki but all i saw are authorized resellers mostly for heavy duty sewing — which is not applicable to this post.

2. Lazada — If you do not want to get caught in heavy traffic while shopping, or want installment deals or pay upon delivery service then head on over at Lazada and choose a sewing machine there. You may want to get something like this or at least –-according to sewing experts that I know— those that are not too inexpensive if you want a good quality machine.

3. Appliance Stores — Automatic Center for instance always has a Brother Sewing Machine display so if you want to check out sewing machines in the mall this is the appliance store that you can go to. There are small Sewing Machines being sold in Ace Hardware branches, but i don’t think it is durable enough to last many sewing projects –sorry.

4. Port Area — if you are familiar with the port area, the old BIR building, or the Philippine Star Main office then you know this next location that i am referring to. This is the area where you can buy surplus sewing machines (they are actually across the Star’s office. Yes these aren’t air-conditioned stalls but you will have a lot of cheap machines to choose from). I think you can buy a Japan surplus sewing machine here for less than Php4,000.00 or something. Sewing Mamas Recommend Madam Zen’s Stall, i think she is pretty famous in there that you can just ask around where her pwesto is. The thing is most of the machines sold in the Port area do not come with user guides so for a beginner it may be difficult to use. Here is a link to the location.

5. Distributors/Resellers — yes, they usually supply industrial types of sewing machines but they sometimes do have household machines. Check out the website of Unixindustrial.  If i understood it right they also sell second-hand sewing machines which they have reconditioned.

6. OLX — if you are OK with buying second-hand then OLX is your best bet. They have hundreds of used machines to choose from. Just take usual precautions on your online transactions.

7. UPDATED: Taytay Old Public Market — Thank you to one of our dear readers, Mommy Clarissa Ababan-Banez for informing us about the sewing machines that are for sale at the Taytay Old Public Market. According to Mommy Clarissa, most of the sewing machines there are for industrial use, but there are portable JUKI machines as well. In addition, Mommy Clarissa mentioned that some of the machines that are being sold there, some are second hand/refurbished. BUT unlike the ones that you can buy at the Pier, the second-hand and reconditioned machines over at the Old Taytay Public Market are all 220 Volts so you would not need a transformer anymore.

8. ANOTHER UPDATE: Sew Corner Manila — You can check out the many sewing machines being sold by this FB seller. Here is a link to her profile.

9. UPDATED: May 21, 2016: Sewing Needs by ol4uaccessewrizethis FB store does not only sell cloth diaper sewing supplies, it also sells sewing machines! well i dont know if they regularly sell SMs on their site but last time i checked they have a serger for sale. Here’s a link to their FB Page.

10. UPDATED: May 21, 2016: Craft Destash PH — Well technically this is not an online store but a B/S/T group where you can find individual sellers who are selling their personal craft items as part of a de-stash. You can find sewing machines here too! Join the group here.

So there you have it. I hope I have given you an idea on where you could buy sewing machines in the Philippines. I highly recommend this e-book on “How To Make (All-In-One, One-Size-Fits-Most) Cloth Diapers: Cover your baby’s bum in style with this step-by-step photo guide for fabulous, eco-friendly diapers” which you may buy here. The kindle version is really affordable, so you may want to buy one. Incidentally they also have a paperback version, which you may wanna check out here.
