Tortang giniling with potatoes and malunggay

NEWBIE COOKING MAMA ALERT! Tortang Giniling with Potatoes and Malunggay could be one of the simplest recipes you can prepare for your family, especially your children. I remember we regularly have ground pork omelette as ulam when I was younger, and now that I have my own family, i want to regularly serve this dish too but with higher nutritional value.

And since malunggay complements even dry dishes, i decided to include it in the recipe and give it a try. Surprisingly, my children loved it! And another good thing about this is that it is yet another under P100 ulam idea that will fit our budget.

So without futher ado i will be sharing with you, newbie cooking mamas, this tortang giniling with potatoes and malunggay recipe for you to try.

Veggie Tortang Giniling Recipe:

Tortang giniling is yet another dish that will meke it to our P100 Budget ulam recipes because of the affordable ingredients that it features.

Ingredients:

250 grams lean ground pork

1 medium potatoes finely chopped

1/2 cup malunggay (i used dried in this recipe but fresh is best)

1 medium onion, chopped

2 cloves of garlic, minced

4 pcs eggs

ADULT SEASONING: Salt and pepper

Optional: 2-3 tbsp fresh milk

Optional: 1/4 cup minced carrots

Cooking Procedure for tortang giniling with potatoes and malunggay:

A healthier version of the tortang giniling we have been accustomed to.

1. Saute garlic and onion.

2. Add in the ground pork (i preboil our ground pork to take out excess oils and fats and possible odor) and saute until cooked.

3. Add in potatoes.

4. add 1/4 cup of water and simmer until potatoes are cooked and liquid has evaporated (about 7-10 minutes).

5. Add in the malunggay (and the optional minced carrots) and cook for another two minutes.

5. Turn off the heat and set aside.

6. In a separate mixing bowl, beat the eggs and add the milk if desired. Separate a portion for your toddler or baby, so that you can season the egg mixture for adult consumption. Season the adult portion with salt and pepper.

7. Pour the meat mixture into the bowls. Mix each bowl until all of the ground meat and veggies have been incorporated.

8. Fry depending on your desired size. Some like it as big as the whole pan while others like to fry it burger patty sized.

9. Serve with ketchup!

Tortang giniling is a simple ulam you can whip up in minutes.

Breastfeeding or nursing clothes can be very helpful especially for first time moms who are still trying to get comfortable while breastfeeding in public. It will also be very helpful for working moms who pump breastmilk in the office.

Dresses for special occasions such as breastfeeding-friendly gowns also help a lot especially when a nursing mom has to have her child’s christening, a wedding, a party or any event that will require formal wear.

And while some veteran breastfeeding moms may say that this is not really essential or required to be successful in breastfeeding, nursing dresses and blouses are nice-to-haves because it makes breastfeeding a lot easier.

So for those of you who are looking for nursing tops, breastfeeding-friendly clothes, and nursing dresses, here is —

1.Malls and Department Stores – Malls usually have special shops and boutiques that cater to maternity clothes which in turn also carry nursing-friendly wardrobe. Department stores on the other hand, especially huge ones like SM (especially Makati and Megamall branches) and Landmark have home brands and concessionaires that cater to nursing moms. Scour their department stores for good and very affordable finds!

2. Lazada — If you cannot leave home yet because of your nursling or CS Incision, then Lazadais the way to go. They will deliver right at your doorstep, depending on the final amount of your purchase, you could be eligible for free shipping, and some products could even be settled via cash on deliver. I had a great pumping career back when I was still an 8-5 Mama. And during that stint, I can’t be seen without my Insulated Breast Milk Cooler Bag. I was lucky because two years before I gave birth, someone gifted me with a Coleman insulated cooler bag, until it gave up on me, and I had to buy a new one.

You see, I have the tendency to over pack, apart from the BM bottles or BM Bags, and reusable gel ice packs, I also put inside my cooler my Ziploc bag of pump parts so that I would not have to wash in between pumping sessions.

If you would like to give breastfeeding teas a try then this post is for you.

I remember gulping hot and iced versions of breastfeeding teas during my stint as a former work-out-of-the-home mom. I earlier wrote about Mother’s Milk Tea, but these teas in this post are MOSTLY those that are locally-made and sourced. Like Mother’s Milk Tea, these teas are perfect for snack time, or after pumping snacks, of for drinking throughout the day.

Actually, you can make malunggay tea, or guyabano tea if you have access to fresh leaves. Just boil them, and store the tea in a covered pitcher on your ref and you’ve got malunggay iced tea all day long and even for the next day! You can add honey or muscovado syrup if you would like it to be a bit sweet.

Supermarkets and Groceries – Almost all groceries and supermarkets have malunggay tea as well as Guyabano tea. They come in packs that are usually sold for P60.00 to P150.00 per box.
Carica Kiosks– These are the herbal stalls that you see in almost all malls. They have both the Malunggay Tea and the Guyabano Tea. They sell it I think for less than P200.00 for a box of about 20 pieces

When you need a pump that is hard working, very efficient, and is very close at mimicking the suckling of an infant to help fully empty your breasts and at the same time help maintain your supply especially when there is no direct latching, then you may want to consider getting a Hospital Grade Pump.
