Daily devotional: Beyond understanding

There are times when we feel like no one gets us, no one understands how we feel. We feel frustrated because all we feel like we are being judged by the people who have not yet even gone through what we are going through.

Hebrews 4:15-16

Whenever we feel like this, we must take heart that even if the rest of the world fails to comprehend us, our actions, and what we are going through, the One who truly matters, DOES get us. The God that we surrender our lives to, knows everything that we feel, where we are coming from, and why we are feeling that way. He truly knows what’s in our hearts, and what is weighing us down.

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.” Isaiah 40:28

Cliche as it may seem, but our Heavenly Father is really just one call away. He is only one prayer away. And no matter how far we may have strayed from Him because of what may have preoccupied us, or what this world has lured us into, let us remember that our way back to His arms will always just be one step back.

And so, when we decide to pray to Him, we can be sure that His ears will be upon us. That He is always, always ready to listen, and that He will deliver us in His own perfect time. After all, He truly understand how we feel not only because He is all-knowing, but because He has walked the earth, and have become one of us.

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:15-16

And so the next time you feel misunderstood, pause and look up to heavens. That is certainly not true. The one who created us, knows every thought we will ever think, every deed we will ever do, and every word we will ever say — and loves and understands us just the same.

“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.” Psalm 139:1-4

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Psalm 139:1-10 and Isaiah 40:27-31 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: Have you ever felt like no one understands you? How does it comfort you to know that our God knows everything about you and He understands and loves you just the same?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for assuring us that you understand everything that we are going through. That no matter what we may have or have not done, you continue to call us to you. And that when we try our best to follow you and still fail, you see what’s in our heart, and continue to renew your mercies. Amen.
