Daily devotional: Boggle

One of my favorite board games growing up is called Boggle. It is a randomized word game that comes with a three-minute timer. Its objective is to find as many words before time runs out.

Much like this game, our lives will come to an end. Like what most comedians say, no one gets out of this universe alive, and that 10 out of 10 people will surely die. But unlike in Boggle where one will know how much time is left before the game ends, we humans will never know when exactly we would run out of time.

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives” 2 Peter 3:10-11

We can never boast about tomorrow, and so we should always make the most of today. If we have not yet fully surrendered our lives to Christ, we for sure will be headed to eternal damnation. And so while we still have time, we should commit ourselves to following Jesus.

“To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—” Jude 1:24

There is no point in postponing our decision to stop living a sinful life, and come back to the Lord. It is when we have a clear conscience will we experience God’s peace — the kind of peace which will help us fully enjoy life, and steady us amidst inevitable challenges we will face.

Psalm 90:12

“Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away. If only we knew the power of your anger! Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:10-12

And as followers of Jesus, we should endeavor to live lives of worship. When we do, we open ourselves to the abundant life Jesus has planned for us. When we follow His commands and love and serve others, He will bless us with His guiding presence.

“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:15-17

Moreover, we should also endeavor to help others get to know Him. After all, time is also running out for them. And in this world where it is easy to get distracted, we should all the more endeavor to help others get to know the truth that can set them free.

“So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.” 2 Peter 3:14

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Ephesians 5:15-21 and 2 Peter 3:8-14 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: Are you living your life in peace and with a clear conscience? If not what keeps you from fully commiting your life to Christ?

Conversation with the Lord: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for inviting us to live a life of abundance and peace. Thank you for calling us to you and never giving up on us in spite of our sinfulness. Give us the confidence to fully commit our lives to you, so that we can live a life of worship. Amen.
