Daily devotional: C-Sec

For several months following surgery, the surrounding area of a Caesarean Section scar may still remain numb. You touch the site near the wound but you will not feel anything, and doctors say this is perfectly normal. Apparently, the nerves near the incision have been severed and so the area surrounding it can feel numb.

After experiencing being convicted of our sins and finally surrendering our life to Jesus, we may become more conscientious than ever. We try our best to not commit the same sins that have led us to a sinful lifestyle. And when we fail to avoid the same temptations we feel even more guilty than before.

This sensitivity to sinning and rebellion against God is what our faith calls us to, as we strive to live a life of worship.

Romans 6:12

“Do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires” Romans 6:12

And while sensitivity to sin is something that we should thank God for, numbness when it comes to sinning is a state we should definitely avoid. You see, not feeling guilty over violating God’s laws is an indication on how far you have drifted from the Heavenly Father.

“They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity.” Ephesians 4:18-19

When we succumb to the enemy’s lies that we can never be strong enough to leave our sinful lifestyle, we know that we have been trapped. When we gave up on our capability to do good things, we allow ourselves to die spiritually.

“In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” 2 Corinthians 4:4

But the good news is God does not give up on us. He relentlessly calls us back to Him, so that we could live the abundant life that He has planned for us. His commandments and teachings are not meant to strangle us, but to protect us. His rod of discipline is meant to straighten our paths and a sign that we are His children.

“And I have other sheep that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will listen to My voice; and they will become one flock, with one shepherd.” John 10:16

Let us not allow ourselves to be fully numbed by sins and its temporary comforts and offers of false security. We should help ourselves to get to know the truth of Jesus Christ by reading and meditating on His words daily and hiding it in our hearts.

Once we realize that He died so that we could live free and be reconciled with God, we will find it in our hearts the desire to follow and please Him. Once we know that His death resurrected our lifeless souls, we will be thankful and eventually faithful. Only then shall we regain sensitivity in areas of our hearts that have grown callous because of worldly beliefs and sinfulness.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Ephesians 4:17-24 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: Are there areas in your life that are numb to sinning?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father thank you for your relentless call for me to come to you. Please give me the grace to recognize the numb areas in my life so that I could be fully obedient and faithful to you. Amen.
