Eternal hard drive

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”

Romans 8:18

One of the common cell phone complaints of most moms is that it never holds enough space for pictures of their children and their family. How many times do we find ourselves having to back up our new favorite photos, and then delete not-so flattering ones, and those we can already commit to our cloud storage or external drives?

Like the internal memory of our mobile phones, our hearts must ONLY be filled with memories we would like to treasure. In his letter to the Philippians, St. Paul the Apostle encouraged the church there to think only of good things: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” (Philippians 4:8)

In our phones, we should get rid of bad shots so that we can make room for new ones. Same with life, we should forget about the hurts we have felt, which have developed into anger and frustrations. We should just upload all the pain and sadness into the one ETERNAL HARD DRIVE who has the capacity to take all the grief away. That ETERNAL HARD DRIVE IS JESUS. In Revelation 21:4-5 the Lord even promised not just to take our grief away, but also to make all things new: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”

Let us allow God to take away all our fears, pent-up anger, regrets, hatred, grief and frustrations over ourselves, our loved ones and other people who may have hurt us. Let us entrust everything to Him because He knows it all — even things we do not pray for but earnestly seek — as mentioned in Romans 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words.”

Let us trust in God and and spread the word to others, so they too can fill their memories with the Lord’s goodness and love.

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to read Psalm 147 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: What are the not so pleasant memories you continue to hold in your heart?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for offering to take my burdens and pains. Allow me to fully trust and surrender to you all the heartaches I have been holding on to, so that I could finally be free to live the life that you planned for me. Amen
