Everlasting Light
“The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.” Isaiah 60:19
Mankind has been continuously developing sources of artificial light. From torches which started some 70,000 years ago, to candles, to fluorescent lights, and now Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights, humans try their best to come up with lighting that remains reliable and bright amid the canvass of dark nights.
Up to now though, we have yet to discover a light source that does not burn out. Yes, even the circa 1901 “Centennial Light” which holds the Guiness World Record for longest lit light bulb still went off for more than nine hours before it continued giving off light until today.
Unlike the Centennial Light, our everlasting light that is Christ Jesus is perpetually lit. (Isaiah 60:19). He will never waver from illuminating our path. In fact if we just walk with Him by abiding in His ways He promises that we will never be in darkness anymore as He promised in John 8:12 “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Living in His light means we will have an eternal source of guidance throughout our earthly life. We can see through our way whether we are in the smoothly paved roads of happiness and the rough roads of sorrow. We will not get lost in the dark, as our Everlasting Light will guide us through the narrow road of eternity with Him. “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)
Thank you for reading, I invite you to read 1 John 1:5-9 to dig deeper on today’s topic.
Reflection Question: Are you living in darkness? How can the Everlasting Light that is Jesus put you back into the right path towards eternal life?
Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, we praise and thank you for shining your light on us and promising that darkness will never overcome us as long as we are walking with You. Help me to fully trust in your promises, so that I could live a good life that is glorifying to you. Amen.
