Daily devotional: Every Season

Every season of our life is finite. If it seems to be a challenging one, then we should take heart that it will come to an end. If it is a good and happy season, then we ought to soak it up, thank God for it, and enjoy as this too will come to an end.

Habakkuk 3:17-18
Habakkuk 3:17-18

Nevertheless, in every season we go through, we can be sure that God is working in us so we can grow our faith. He is working on us so that our eyes will be opened to the abundant life that is before us. He would like us to develop the ability to be joyful regardless of the circumstance we find ourselves in.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-7

The preceding bible passage which was St. Paul the Apostle’s reminder to the Philippian Church still applies to us, present-day followers of Jesus. He wrote that letter back when he was incarcerated in a Roman prison cell, witnessing to us that for Christians, joy should not depend on our circumstance. Instead, it should be tethered on the Lord’s presence in our daily lives.

And so as we intentionally choose to anchor our joy in God’s presence, we get to become more spiritually mature and resilient in the face of inevitable adversities. In our heart, we know that we serve a God who will never leave us, and will be with us in all seasons of our lives.

“Though the fig tree does not bud, and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” Habakkuk 3:17-18

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Philippians 4:4-9 and Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: How do you make the most of every season of your life? How do you thank God, and call for His help when you need it during challenging times?

Conversation with the Lord: Lord Jesus, thank you that with you we can be sure that we will have someone to rely on in all seasons of our life. Thank you and praying for the grace and confidence to continue calling and thanking you regardless of where we are at in our lives. Amen.
