Daily devotional: God makes no mistakes

Daily Devotional

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Isaiah 55:8-9

I was a student during the era of liquid paper. People older than me call it “sno pake,” and then students nowadays do not know both liquid paper and sno pake anymore. What they use and need nowadays is called a “correction tape.” Whatever we use to hide or write over our errors, what we can be sure of is that God does not need any of these because he makes no mistakes.

The scripture tells us that everything that happens in this world is ordained by the Lord. In the letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians, he mentioned that God has pre-planned everything: “In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will,” Ephesians 1:11

Now if everything that happens has been planned by the Lord then we should take heart that He will not allow us to perish. His plans are good for us (Jeremiah 29:11), and that He will never abandon us. If we are presently having problems, then we should remind ourselves that the crisis we are undergoing has been experienced by others too, and that no one in this world is free from life issues. St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians says: “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

Let us remember that the Lord is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end (Revelation 1:8). He knows how our life starts, and how it will end. He has planned everything to accomplish His purpose, and if we trust our lives and surrender it to Him, we can experience peace and joy no matter the life challenges we are facing.

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to read Psalm 139 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: Are you wondering about why God is allowing you to undergo these challenging circumstances in your life? What lessons can you learn about it, and has it brought you closer to Him?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, allow me to trust in your wisdom and plans. That I should not be too anxious about my circumstances and instead, surrender myself to you, and bear my cross as I try my best to live a life that pleases you.
