We have to stop measuring ourselves up against others, trying to be
like them, comparing our lives, our past, and our circumstances with
them. Let us stop the struggle to fit in and be liked. They are not
the standard, Jesus is THE standard.
As long as we know that we are pleasing God, we could carry on and
live lives not feeling sorry for what we are not, and what we do not
have.
“Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the
satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare
yourself to anyone else.” Galatians 6:4
We can only be like Jesus, if we ask God to help us become more like
Him everyday. And while we can never do it on our own, we can hold on
to the truth that God has destined us to be just like Jesus. And so
when we intentionally pray. and endeavor to know Him more through His
words, and emulate His character, we could grow to be more like Him
each day.
“For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the
image of his Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers
and sisters.” Romans 8:29
And so when we use Jesus’ life as our guide on our everyday choices
and life changing decisions we get to be like Him and less like the
worldly people we try to emulate. And as we grow our faith, we will
truly know that following Christ is our first step to freedom.
Freedom from things and people do not matter, freedom from worthless
endeavors, and freedom from the lies that the enemy uses to keep us
stalled in grief, fear, depression, anxiety, and seemingly endless sin
cycle.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by
the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve
what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to
ponder on Galatians 6:3-5 to dig deeper on today’s topic.
Reflection Question: Do you struggle with trying to fit in, and trying
to be like other people? How does knowing that God loves you for who
you are make a difference in your mindset?
Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for letting us
know that we can be more like Jesus because you destined us to be like
Him, and you will empower us to grow more like Him each day we choose
to follow His teachings and example. Give us the grace and strength to
honor him in our everyday life and daily choices. Amen.
