Daily devotional: In fairness

Whenever we feel like life is unfair, may we always remember that God
is a good, good father. He is actually a perfect parent, the best one
we could ever have. He loves all of us fairly. If we, human parents
strive to equally love and provide for each of our children so that
they will not feel hurt, what more our Heavenly Father who is the
source of all good things?

1 Timothy 6:6-7
1 Timothy 6:6-7

And though it may appear that some may have more than what we possess,
in the end, every spiritual, material, and physical blessing given to
each of us was planned out through His sovereign will. What others
have more of that we seem to lack, is compensated by what we may have
an abundance of, that the other may be struggling with.

“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to
your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good
gifts to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11

And so whenever we are tempted to think that our life has not been
dealt with fairly, we should remind ourselves to trust God’s timing
and His best laid out plans. Let us trust in His wisdom and
all-sufficient grace to cover for what we think we lack.

And instead of comparing ourselves with others, let us just learn to
be happy for what other people have and what they have achieved.

“But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing
into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.” 1
Timothy 6:6-7

Once we have come to accept God’s will in our lives, we can rest in
the assurance that no matter what the eye sees, as long as we know
that we are His children, we will lack nothing.

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes
refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear
him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who
seek the Lord lack no good thing.” Psalm 34:8-10

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to
ponder on 1 Timothy 6:6-9 and Psalm 34:8-20 to dig deeper on today’s
topic.

Reflection Question: Do you think your life was not dealt with fairly?
How does looking at God as the perfect parent help you deal with the
challenges that you face?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for being the
perfect Heavenly Father that you are. Forgive me for the times that I
thought to myself that I am being treated by life unjustly. You have
been so merciful my Lord, and so gracious at the same time. Grant me
the confidence to continue waiting on you, and to refrain from looking
at what others have. Amen.
