Let God redefine you
“Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”
Ezekiel 36:26
History is a great teacher, and as Winston Churchill says, “those who do not learn from it are bound to repeat it.” Learning about it in school though may not seem as exciting as it sounds if you lack interest in it. Some even say that history could be a boring subject.
As human beings, our personal history can have a great control over how we conduct ourselves and make decisions. But let us remember that we should not allow it to be our navigator in life. As the great preachers say, our past should not dictate where we are going because our personal history does not define us. And yes, even if you have the worst track record as a human being, you can still make a 360 degree turn if only you will allow God to recalibrate your life. Let us take into heart the prayer found in Lamentations 5:21 which says: “Restore us to You, O Lord, that we may be restored; Renew our days as of old.”
In the book of Revelation, it was emphasized that God makes all things new (Revelation 21:5). And as long as you walk with God, and abide in His commands, no matter how wayward you may have been, you will be able to find your way back to Christ’s heart. St. Paul the Apostle’s second letter to the Corinthians encourages us on this matter: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
It may be hard to pick up the broken pieces of our life. This is especially true in this worldly generation of ours where investing in a good reputation has become more important than developing a genuinely good character. But we should remember that it is the Lord that we should aim to please. He knows our heart and our thoughts, so no matter what others would say, if we have Jesus then all will be well and we could move on. So let us allow our Lord Jesus Christ to redefine us, after all He created us in His own image (Genesis 1:27).
Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to read Ezekiel 36:26-36 to dig deeper on today’s topic.
Reflection Question: How can God redefine you? Is your past holding you back from turning your life around?
Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, allow me to offer to you my broken past, and hold on to your promise of renewal. Please steer my life into the right direction as I journey towards your heart. Amen.
