If the recording you are listening to keeps on repeating itself uncontrollably, the 1980s term used to describe that sound was “like a broken record.” Hence, each time a person (especially a kid), says something over and over again, annoyed people would say that the person is like a broken record.

Followers of Jesus like us though need not be too conscious about the things we say to God during our prayer time. No matter if we keep on asking Him for the same things, or telling Him the most minute and seemingly irrelevant details of our lives, our Heavenly Father will be more than happy to listen to us.
As long as we speak sincerely through our hearts, no matter how big or small the deal of what we are saying is, God is pleased when we pray to Him.
“But the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.” Psalm 147:11
In His three-year public ministry, Jesus repeated several times that we should approach God like a child. We ought to pray like a kid who believes that his parent will listen, will consider his request. We have to pray like a child who never gives up on the one thing that we are hoping for.
“Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” Mark 10:15
When we pray like a child, we are declaring our utmost dependence on the Lord and that pleases Him. When He knows that we sincerely see Him as our ultimate source of everything that we need spiritually, physically, and emotionally, He blesses us with the best for our lives.
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11
And while surrendering our lives to Jesus, and praying fervently each time will not guarantee an automatic positive answer to our prayers, we can be sure that whatever God’s response is to our prayers is what is best for our lives.
Since our Father knows what we need even before we ask Him, He responds with the best solution to the problems we are praying about, and He resolves issues and addresses needs in such a way that will ultimately benefit us.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10
And so when we pray to the Lord, we should pray without any hesitations. We should pray and talk to God the way we would talk to a caring, generous, and understanding father, who only wants the best for his children.
“The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry. The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth. When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.” Psalm 34:15-17
Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Matthew 7:7-12 and Psalm 34:15-20 to dig deeper on today’s topic.
Reflection Question: How do you pray to God? How do you present your requests to Him?Â
Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for being so good to us that you delight in our prayers. Please continue giving us the confidence to come to you in prayer, and declare to you our dependence on Your love and provision. Amen.Â
