One of the most emotionally-charged letters a person can ever write is
a Letter of Resignation. We can write it when we are too elated to
leave our jobs for a better opportunity in another company, or to
focus on our families.
But we can also write one at the depth of grief, as we have to leave
our jobs to do something more important like undergo extensive health
treatment or take care of a loved one who needs such. Likewise, we
might write one at the height of anger towards a boss or a co-worker.
When we feel like we have reached a dead-end in our career.
Our careers may have a dead-end but our lives do not. We may go
through a season where we feel like we have lost our lives’ meaning,
that we have lost our purpose, and that there no longer is a reason to
live. But this is farthest from the truth, and the story of Easter is
proof.

“And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in
you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your
mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.” Romans 8:11
When we feel like we are as good as dead, going through life like a
zombie, or one who would rather sleep our life away, we can call on
our Lord to resurrect what’s dead in us.
“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within
you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you
a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26
The power that resurrected Jesus from the grave, is the same power
that can give us a new life and a fresh start. It is the same power
that can give us the strength and the will to turn away from our sins,
and start our lives anew.
“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order
that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the
Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4
No one can ever say that our stories have ended and that there is no
point to our existence. This is the lie of the enemy, who only came to
destroy us by whispering words of hopelessness into our weary soul.
God Himself extinguishes these lies by sending His one and only Son to
allow us to be reconciled to Him.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they
may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10
And so when we feel like we want to resign in life let’s muster all
our emotional and mental strength to go back to the last place where
we felt Jesus’ presence and seek Him there once more. May it be in
church, in your room where you pray earnestly, in your dining table
where you read the Bible, or with your bible study group mates — just
go back to Him, because He is waiting.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us
our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to
ponder on Romans 6:4-14 to dig deeper on today’s topic.
Reflection Question: Do you ever feel like your life no longer
matters? That there is no point to your existence? How can going back
to God help you find your purpose once again?
Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for assuring us
that we are never good as dead and purposeless. Thank you that you
have breathed new life on us through Your son Jesus Christ. Give us
the confidence to keep seeking you, and the courage to obey you
always. Amen.
