Daily devotional: Sleep Sweet

Sleep sweet

“When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.”

Proverbs 3:24
Daily Devotional

Except for moms of newborns and young infants, mothers generally sleep sweet. Whether we work out of the home, or are full-time house moms, we tend to be bone tired by the time our head hits the pillow. Next thing we know we have dozed off already and could even be happily snoring the night away.

And why not? We dedicate our strength the whole day to nurturing the kids, working for them, and loving them no end. That sound sleep that we get at the end of the day is a gift from our Creator — a reward for our hard work. Ecclesiastes 5:12 says “The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether they eat little or much, but as for the rich, their abundance permits them no sleep.”

But like any other person, we mothers also go through sleepless nights. Anxiety can get the better of us when one of our children is sick, when we worry about provisions, schedules, or personal matters. Whenever this happens, let us call to mind the good things that the Lord has done for us. How he has been faithful to us, not forgetting to provide what we truly need. For these times, recite Psalm 116:7 as you try to drift off “Return to your rest, my soul, for the LORD has been good to you.”

When our mind seems to be fixated on our troubles, or worries about things that could go wrong, we should remember that our Heavenly Father is reaching out to us, offering the peace only He could give. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to read Psalm 23 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: What do you do when you cannot sleep soundly? Turn to Jesus and get the refreshing rest you need for both your body and soul.

Conversation with the Lord: Almighty Father, we praise and thank you for being the God of Peace. For guarding our hearts as we deeply slumber, and blessing us and our families with your divine protection. Inspire us to continue abiding by you so we will have the least of worries, and we could enjoy the True Rest that only you can offer.

Thank you for stopping by and till next post!
