Daily devotional: The Booklet

Everytime my children wanted to buy something, or eat something special, they would ask me if they could have that for their birthday or for Christmas. I then would list down all these little requests in a small notebook so that I could remember them on the next occasion.

1 Peter 3:12

In our faith journey, we are assured that our Heavenly Father hears and takes note of every request that we pray for. And yes, He responds to each one of it in His own perfect time and according to His perfect will.

The Book of Revelation attests to this, as it tells us that in heaven, our prayers are held inside prayer bowls.

“And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.” Revelation 5:8

The Bible assures us that God indeed hears our prayers, and that there is nothing too big nor too small that He cannot deal with. We have to have the right attitude though in praying, and that we say it with all sincerity and faith.

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Psalm 145:18

We also have to strive harder and set our hearts right as we implore God to help us. Scriptures have indicated several times that the Lord hears the prayers of the people who try their best to follow Him.

“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” 1 Peter 3:12

Moreover, we can also hold on to the truth that the Lord hears us at our lowest and weakest. The Book of Psalms, St. Paul’s letters to the Corinthians, among other books in the Bible point to God’s loving promise to hear us when we are deep in grief and distress.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18

As for our urgent and repetitive requests, we can also be sure that it lands in God’s ears. While Him hearing everything we say does not guarantee answered prayers, we can hold on to the truth that our Heavenly Father will answer our prayers to our best benefit.

“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11

Another type of prayer that the Lord hears are the prayers that are aligned to His will and good purpose. When we pray for the means to live fruitful lives, we can be sure that God will respond to it like a loving Father who only wants the best for all His children.

“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” 1 John 5:14-15

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to
ponder on Luke 11:1-13 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: How comforting is it to know that God takes note of all your prayers? How will this change your prayer life?

Conversation with the Lord: Father God, thank you for your assurance that you hear the deepest longings of our hearts. Give us the heart to continue presenting our requests to you and trust that your response will always be for the best. Amen.
