The End of Season

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

Psalm 90:12

Before every start of the school year, I get this bittersweet feeling of sadness and excitement. My kids are one year-level higher, will learn about new things, and will meet new friends. I also feel grateful about how the Lord provides for us in terms of educating our children. But then it reminds me how time flies by so fast, and that my babies are no longer the little persons that they are.

I read somewhere that mothers only have about 18 summers with each of her children. With this in mind, I told myself that I should all the more focus on enjoying spending time with the kids while ensuring that they are equipped for life challenges. Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

And in equipping them with vital life skills, we should rest in the knowledge that the Lord will be there to show us the best way to guide our children. In the Book of Deuteronomy, the Lord tells us to use the bible as a roadmap in raising them. Chapter 6:6-7 states “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” As long as we abide in His commands, we are assured that the Lord will shepherd us as we endeavor to raise Godly children.

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to read Psalm 127:3-5 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: How do you plan to enjoy the last days of vacation with your kids? Is the Lord included in any of your plans?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father we praise and thank you for giving us your Word, and the Holy Spirit to guide us on raising our children. Grant us the wisdom to decide on how we will train them, and the time and good health to enjoy every minute of our lives together. Amen.

Thank you for stopping by and till next post!
