Most children love trying on other people’s eyeglasses. I did it as a kid, and my own children like doing it too. It’s as if there is something enticing about trying on someone’s eyeglasses just because you get to see how the owner sees things, and at the same time you get to see how you would look like if you use another person’s frames.
No matter the reason, the person trying on someone else’s eyeglasses are usually told off to not try on other people’s specs because it can make them feel dizzy.
But if there’s a lens that we can keep trying on, or even use, it is that of our Savior’s. As followers of Jesus, He is asking us to see the world the way He sees it so that we can be more like Him.
“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;” Philippians 2:5-6
When we look at things the way Jesus does, it will be easier for us to abide in His commands. We get to be more compassionate, more understanding, and even more patient.
“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18
And as we try to see things the way Jesus sees it, we can even do the impossible. How? Well, we can love our enemies, and even forgive those who have intentionally hurt us. Before deciding to see things the way God does, that would have been impossible.
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
So how do we do this? How do we practically see things the way Jesus does?
The answer is we cannot do it alone. We can only do it when we have a close and genuine relationship with Jesus Christ, because only by then can we fully decide to abide and do things His way.
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:1-2
Moreover, if we also see God in every person that we meet we are more likely to love and serve them well. When we treat other people with love, patience, and genuine concern because we want to please the Lord, we get to see the world in His eyes, and love like He does.
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24
Once we get to know God, His promises and His character, our hearts will be better aligned at following His will. We would see things clearer, and we will know what really matters.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Mathew 6:19-21

Conversation with the Lord: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for being compassionate, merciful, and ever-loving. Give us the strength to be confident to be more like you, and see people the way you do. Amen. Â
