The prepping world advocates wearing gray during end times scenarios or what they call “the collapse.” According to them, once everyone is fighting for survival, the gray man can move about unnoticed, surviving without calling attention and danger to himself.
In our spiritual life though, we cannot be a gray man. There is no middle ground for us followers of Jesus. It is either we are His followers, or we are not. There is no gray area.
“Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.” Matthew 12:30
The Bible is very clear on this. You will know where you stand based on whom you obey. If you choose to honor God, then that’s the side you belong to. But if you rebel, live a life of lies, and choose not to revere the Lord that gave you life, then you are definitely on the other side. Look at this passage from the first letter of the disciple John:
“By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.” 1 John 3:10
Likewise, we cannot play safe by being lukewarm in our faith. Gray areas in our faith can be considered lukewarm, because although it is not darkly rebellious, it is also not pristine enough. It is not pristine because maybe there is some form of tolerance of sin, indifference to others, and other forms of compromise. The below passage from the Book of Revelation tells us how God feels about this:
“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” Revelation 3:15-16
The good news is it is never too late to take on the Lord’s offer to become one of His children. No matter how grievous our sins may be or how bad the choices we have made, we are invited by the Lord to repent, step away from our sinful lifestyle, abide in His commands and live a life of worship.
As always though, God will never impose Himself on us, and will always allow us to make our own choices. He will not barge into our life, but rather, He will gently knock in our hearts, and leave us to decide if we would let Him in.

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Revelations 3:20
And so today, when we hear Him calling us into abiding in Him, let us not harden our hearts. Let us open up to Him, and allow Him to dwell with us. Let us take up His invitation to live a life of obedience to His commands, because only then will we experience true and lasting peace.
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded” James 4:8

Reflection Question: Do you know where you exactly stand in your spiritual life? Are there gray areas in your faith walk?
Conversation with the Lord: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for the clear cut rules that we have that make us choose the best path which is you. Give us the grace to continue abiding in You and living a life of worship. Amen.
