Whenever we get hurt by others, let us remember that wounded people wound others. The person who hurt us may also be hurting. When we decide to forgive them, even if they are not asking for it, we free ourselves from the pain they inflicted to us.
Let us not allow them to steal our joy. Instead, let’s continue focusing on our Healer, and true joy giver, Jesus Christ — our Prince of Peace.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
In our pain, let us allow Jesus’ words and promises to heal, strengthen and calm our weary souls. Let us hold on to the truth that God sent Him for us so that we can experience comfort and relief amid hurt and grief.Â
“He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,” Isaiah 61:1
Let us unstuck ourselves from anger and unforgiveness. Let us stop rehearsing our pain, and retelling the stories of betrayal and rehearsing every wrong thing done to us. And as we strive to forgive, we not only free ourselves from the baggage of the past, we also get to follow God’s call for us to forgive just as He has forgiven us.
Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Isaiah 61:1-3 and Luke 4:16-21 to dig deeper on today’s topic.
Reflection Question: How do you rise above the pain inflicted to us by others?
Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for giving Jesus to us, so that we can finally be set free from the cudgels of sin and unforgiveness. Thank you for your graciousness and kindness, and may you give us the grace to be merciful like you. Amen.Â
