Daily devotional: Track Record

Whenever the election campaign period comes around, candidates draw up their track record. They run through everything they have done as a public servant, to prove they are the best person for the position.

As present-day believers, there is a track record that is useful for us too — the track record of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that is! When we are facing difficult circumstances and seemingly insurmountable problems, we should think back into Jesus’ track record in our lives.

We must call to mind the many times He has rescued us from our woes, the blessings he has bestowed on us, and how He has sustained us all through these years. When we shift our focus on His faithfulness in our lives, we can keep our hopes up, that He will again help us endure the inevitable difficult situations we face.

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.” Psalm 77:11-12

Recalling the Lord’s faithfulness in our lives, is a way of assuring ourselves of God’s unchanging character – as Hebrews 13:8 says: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” By looking at His track record — how He has been so good to us all through our lives — we will remember how great a God He is.

“But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children’s children, to those who keep His covenant and remember to do His commandments.” Psalm 103:17-18

And so whenever we struggle, we should take heart that our God will come for us in the perfect time. All we have to do is to continue being faithful to Him, live by our calling, and continue nurturing our relationship with Him.

“The Lord will keep you from all harm—He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” Psalm 121:7-8

We must not waver in our faith when bad times come. We must not tire of doing our quiet time, not skip bible reading and attending bible study sessions, and continue going to church. More importantly we must remain steadfast in worshipping and thanking Him amid our struggles, and continue asking for His help.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

When we remind ourselves about God’s track record in our lives, we can then confidently hold on to His promises. After all, as one preacher says, “His past faithfulness is a promise of future deliverance.”

“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:21-23

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to
ponder on Psalm 77:1-13 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: Have you reflected on God’s track record in your life? How does it give you confidence that He will help you with your present struggles?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you for being faithful and unchanging. Thank you that even when I do not deserve it, you continue to be loving, merciful, and patiently waiting for me to repent. Give me the grace to continue being hopeful and faithful to you. Amen.
