Daily Devotional, Sept 29, 2023 Working full time
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek." Romans 1:16
Working full time is a well understood phrase which meant dedicating at least eight hours a day to work in a certain company or one’s own business. In essence, it is one-thirds of a whole day, half of the supposed waking hours of each man.
But working ‘full time’ for the Lord means a totally different thing. Yes, it could signify one’s occupation such as being a priest, a pastor, a nun, a religious brother, or even a full-time church worker. But working full time for the Lord can also mean another thing.
Someone said that “every industry is a ministry,” which suggests that for Christians who want to take part in the Great Commission, they too can work full time for Christ whilst working in their respective occupations. After all not everyone can be a priest or a pastor since each has been given their own gift “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us” (Romans 12:6).
Evangelism in essence can be brought to work through bible study groups, and even in everyday conversations where a Christian can shine Jesus’ light on others “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16). When we consistently display good traits to others, people would get curious enough to ask us where we draw peace and strength amidst life challenges. Once these questions pop up discipleship can begin.
We are more than blessed to have received salvation, and so we Christians should spread Christ’s message of redemption to those who have yet to have a personal relationship with Him. We should not be shy about this, or even lose heart when people seem disinterested. We should instead be emboldened to introduce our Lord and Savior to others, for after all, that was what He calls us to do as quoted in Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Thank you for reading our devotional today, I invite you to ponder on Romans 12:6-10 to dig deeper on today’s message.
Reflection question: Have you tried sharing the good news to your family and friends? If not, what is preventing you to do so?
Prayer: Almighty Father, give me the confidence to do as you told as to share the good news of your salvation. I sincerely want many others to experience the forgiveness and redemption you have given me. Amen.
