Weekly school baon ideas october 2023

Hello everyone! Here’s another installment of a week’s worth of school baon ideas! If you are new to this series and would like to check out our past posts, you may do so here. As usual, I try my best to make it as wholesome and nutritious as possible, but there are times convenience knocks at the door (hahaha)!

I try my best to add fruit for each day but there really are times when I could not get as much in my weekly grocery shopping. This week, I tried a corn dog recipe because I did not want to buy those frozen corn dogs in the grocery. I did not want to buy them because they are a bit expensive and I thought it would be more economical if I could just try doing it myself, so since it came out as a success (according to my kids and the classmates they shared their baon with) I will be sharing the recipe soon.

Anyway, without further ado, here are some school lunch box ideas for your grade schoolers:

Baon ideas for your kids

1. Monday: Avocado and Ham sandwich, boiled egg and orange wedges

2. Tuesday: Egg omelette sandwich, chicken popcorn, and mangosteen fruit

3. Wednesday: Chorilog: Chorizo slices, scrambled eggs, and steamed rice, plus boiled saba banana for dessert 🙂

4. Thursday: Homemade mini cheese corn dog waffle and Yan-yan chocolate treat

5. Friday: Chicken Franks, rice balls, and sweet potatoes fried mojo-style

My kids loved the kamote mojo potatoes ♡ I am so happy!

So that’s it, starting today, I will endeavor to post these baon ideas by end of the week, so that you can at least include the ingredients of the suggested items in your weekend grocery list.

Food for the soul

At this point, I hope you could allow me to share with you one of my favorite bible passages, this time from the Book of Acts of the Apostles:

"From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us." ACTS 17:26-27

Thank you for stopping by and till next post!

Weekly baon ideas for school lunchboxes

Hello everyone!

Restarting our Baon Ideas series, this time for the new school year that has just started. I will endeavor to post every Tuesday, school snack ideas for your gradeschooler and pre-schooler. From time to time I will try to post some lunch meals too!

Posting baon ideas for almost 10 yrs

If you are new to our website, you can check out our Baon Ideas section where I have posted dozens upon dozens of baon ideas through the years. I hope these could help in your daily chore of preparing  yummy and nutritious snacks for your kids.

I am not claiming that all baon ideas are A1 healthy and nutritious because some have unavoidable convenience (processed) foods on them, but I  honestly try my best to shove in some healthy and wholesome snacks to tide them over until its dismissal time! Thank you and hope to see you here every week!

School baon and lunchbox ideas for Sept 2023

1. Chicken Franks and Egg Gimbap and Ripe Banana – I just fry some chicken Franks, half it lengthwise, and then scramble some eggs, put it on top of white rice, drizzle some japanese mayonnaise and wrap with a nori sheet. I add some bananas to make it a complete meal!

Easy gimbap baon idea

2. French Toast with Syrup, Sausages, Scrambled Egg and Orange wedges _ Making french toast early in the morning is not complicated at all. Besides it helps you use up all sliced bread that would soon expire! Don’t forget to drizzle some powdered sugar before covering the lid for that added yumminess!

Happy french toast for a happy student!

3. Cheese buns, Mochi, Greek Yogurt, Alphabet Chicken Nuggets and Rice balls. Loaded baon for a loaded day in school! Sorry about the convenience foods in here but these all make my little ones happy. The Mochi from Regent is interesting because one big pack of about Php80.00 come with various flavors. It is a happy addition to any baon, promise!

4. Ham and Egg Sandwich, Waffle, Mini-Corndog, and Sweet Treat. I call this a fragment baon because it is all from loose ends and left overs. I made some waffles the other day, and then I tried cooking some mini corndogs from scratch so there. At least I got a good baon for the kiddos.

What could be easier than an odds and ends baon

5. Sweet Corn and Steamed Sweet Potatoes. This is such a healthy baon that my girls really love. They like orange sweet potatoes, and they like sweet corn on the cob too. So I packed them some and called it a good lunchbox day 🙂

So that’s it see you guys again next week! I hope you got some ideas from the lunchbox contents that I presented.

Food for the soul

At this point, Allow me to share with you one of my favorite bible passages, this time from the Book Of Deuteronomy:

"There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land." (Deuteronomy 15:11)

Here are five school lunch baon suggestions for the week.

Hello there! Thank you for stopping by our weekly baon ideas post. This week I decided to suggest five school lunch ideas your kids may like. I had fun preparing these, and I am hoping that you will have fun too!

Well, most of the ulam or viand ideas here are our actual lunch for the day, so I did not cook anything special just for the baon. The household’s lunch is the same as the packed lunch. I have posted meal plans before so if you are in the lookout for monthky and weekly meal plans, check them out here.

Lunch baon for the week

The Pork Sinigang is Achie’s favorite. I am just glad that our Omie Box does a good job in keeping everything spill free and warm till lunch time. The monggo gisado is surprisingly a favorite of my kids especially when it comes with Chicharon. Since I could not include pork rinds in the box, I decided to just crush them and roll the rice balls in it.

The other baon entries like the pasta are of course part of our usually monthly lunch repertoire that is on repeat almost every month.

Screenshot time for baon ideas

So, without further ado, here is the matrix of all the baon ideas for the week:

MONDAYRice balls, Pork Sinigang, Kiwi-strawberry juice, Tiny apple
TUESDAYGarlic chicken, French Beans, Black Rice, Greek Yogurt, Cranberry Juice
WEDNESDAYFried liempo, over-easy eggs, rice balls, watermelon balls
THURSDAYCheesy Alfredo Pasta, Raisin coconut macaroons, apple juice, rambutan and orange wedges
FRIDAYGinisang Munggo, Riceballs rolled in chicharon, grape juice, pineapple cubes
Baon suggestions for week #3

I make it a point to pack fruits for the kids, and I am glad they enjoy eating them as dessert. So there goes, if you need more baon ideas, hope you can check out the other posts in our channel. We have a newly started playlist on school snack and baon ideas. Hope it will be helpful for you too!

Sharing my devotional

At this point, I hope you could allow me to share with you the bible passage that I have read during my devotional this morning. It comes from the Letter of St. Paul to the Philippians.

“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, Lord Jesus Christ.”

Philippians 3:20

Thank you very much for stopping by and till next week!

Here is our Weekly School Snack Baon Ideas #2

If you need more weekly school snack plans, you may want to subscribe to our blog, or check out our weekly baon posts from the previous years here. Once you get into the habit of preparing a variety of school snacks that are mostly nutritious for the kids, it will just become second nature. I hope to be of help in this endeavor of yours.

This week’s encouragement for fellow moms

Allow me to share with you at this point, an encouraging passage in the bible that could help us, mothers, weather the challenges of being a mom and soak in the joys of motherhood.

“Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.”

Deuteronomy 4:9

For me this passage means that apart from teaching the actual scriptures to your children, you should be a witness to the truth of these words. Tell your children how specific passages have been true to your life before they came, or even in the current season. While they may not fully grasp all your explanations, at least they will remember your stories, and you on the other hand will develop a habit of telling them the Good News through your life.

Thank you everyone and till next post!

Restarting our weekly school snack baon ideas. Here is for week #1.

Been a long while since I posted in our Baon Series, so I thought of doing a hard restart. Before the pandemic, I regularly post weekly baon ideas to help out moms like me who are looking for what snacks to pack for their pre-schoolers and grade schoolers. Today, I will endeavor to begin a consistent series meant to help you generate ideas for your children’s everyday school snack, or baon.

I know it can be a bit hard to think of what to pack for our kids everyday, and that there are times we succumb to doing the easiest, which is to give them pre-packed snacks. While this is very convenient and helpful for most frazzled mornings, and for when we as moms are not feeling well, we all know that it is best to build good eating habits for our little ones.

I am not claiming of course that the snacks that I prepare are all made from scratch or ultra-healthy. Like most moms, I just strive hard to give them a good variety of snacks – mostly nutritious – to fill their tummies while in school. As they say, when tummies are not grumbling, the mind can better absorb lessons and teachings.

So here goes week #1 of our 2023 weekly school snack baon ideas:

I try my best to make the snacks look fun and delicious, not only for my gradeschooler, but for me too. I have discovered that as a Morning Lark / Early Riser, I find joy in preparing these baon snack boxes. It may not be at par with hardcore bento moms, but I try my best.

Finding joy in everyday chores

The silicone cups, picks, sauce containers, molds, bento boxes have all been accumulated through time. Here is my previous article where discussed where to buy Bento tools and accessories. I also discovered the joy of baking during the pandemic, and so it gave me more snack options to include in my kids’ bento boxes. You can of course buy from your favorite bakery stores if you do not have the time. What is important is we at least exert effort to give our kids a variety of school snacks that they will enjoy eating.

For your easy reference below is a chart you can take a screenshot of, as for the contents of the baon school snack boxes I prepared for the week:

Screenshot time for weekly baon school snack list:

MONDAYChocolate Cupcake, Hardboiled Eggs, Chicken Popcorn, Furikake Riceballs
TUESDAYEgg Salad Sandwich, Butter Cookies, Chicken Sausage Bites
WEDNESDAYCheese Bar, Brownie Bars, Breadsticks, Nutella Dip
THURSDAYDew Berry Strawberry Cookies, Strawberry Covered Biscuits, Chicken Floss Bread
FRIDAYTuna Triangle Gimbap, Egg Rolls, Chicken Sausage

Finding peace and resting in our Shepherd

Lastly, I hope you can allow me to share with you a bible passage that could hopefully help us moms throughout the week ahead. I take comfort in reading this quote from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah:

“He will lead His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs in His arms; and carry them in His bosom, and gently lead the mother sheep.”

ISAIAH 40:11

I just find comfort that as a mom looked upon for guidance by my children, I am also being led by my Shepherd. My Sovereign God who knows my name, my children’s name, and yours too! In times when I feel that I am lost in making decisions for the family, or even everyday mundane choices, I get comforted knowing that there is a Shepherd that will lead me to the right path, to a safe place, and to peace.

I hope this week’s post has helped you in some way. Thank you for stopping by and see you on my next blog!

Kid’s Baon Ideas Recap Week 12

Hello everyone! Here is Achie’s baon recap for the past week. Pardon the decision to post later in the week, as allergy attacks have slowed me and shobz down this week.

Besides, posting at the end of the week can also minimize confusion about the weekly baon as some mommies have been asking how manage to do all the baons ahead of time.

Pinoy School Kid’s Baon Ideas

I figured that i should call the series a “recap” and that i should publish every end of the week to avoid the confusion that I have prepared a whole week’s baon already.

Anyhoo moving forward, and again at the risk of sounding like a broken record, please take note of the portions and slices and see if it is safe enough for the age of your school kid. Same goes with allergies and school baon rules.

Without further ado, here’s a recap of Achie’s baon this week:

MONDAY: Eggpie and banana chips plus her favorite fruit punch juice box.

Achie loves Eggpie, maybe because it is soft and not as sweet as leche flan

Quail eggs are one of her favorite school snacks so I make sure to include it in the baon planning from time to time.

WEDNESDAY: bibingka, galletas de bato, yakult and raisins.

As a child i loved eating Galletas de bato. This one is not as sweet and as thin as what I am accustomed to. I love those that come from Bacolod if im not mistaken.

First time to see gigantic banana chips in the weekend market. Just got the plain ones, but they have flavored ones too like sour cream, cheese and barbecue.

Healthy School Baon Ideas

At the risk of sounding like a broken record please mind the portions/slices of the snack items and make it suitable/safe for super young kids. Apart from possible choking hazards, please keep in mind as well possible allergens your child may have as well as the baon guidelines implemented in your child’s school.

Week #10 of school baon ideas for kids

Without further ado, here’s a recap of Achie’s school baon last week:

MONDAY — Eggy bread, matcha green tea bread sticks, and fresh milk.

Just glad that achie shares my love for sunny side up eggs and green tea / matcha flavored stuff!

THURSDAY — Sweet corn on the cob and Fresh milk.

Two words: By Request. My kids love sweet corn and so it is a no-brainer to pack it for her in school. I decided to use reusable chopsticks as her handle instead of the usual barbecue stick.

I challenged myself the past week to come up with healthy baon ideas.

Did not have time to post this earlier today, but I am hoping the healthy baon ideas in this post are not too late to help you with your baon planning. Here is achie’s baon recap for the past week to help newbie school mamas plan their little one’s baon for the new week.

Healthy Baon Ideas for The Week

This week, I challenged myself to come up with healthy baon ideas for Achie. Not that the past baon snacks i have prepared are unhealthy but more because I wanted to reduce the presence of processed food in my family’s diet. REDUCE being the operative word because I know in my heart that it will be really hard to totally eliminate it (but im sure it is doable as some families have done it) given the many factors that push moms like me to choose to serve processed food from time to time. No judgements whatsoever, i do not know what challenges you have, I am imperfect as well, but I just tried to make cleaner baons the past weeks and see if my kid will be happy with it too. Glad that she is happy with the baons as most of them I have already introduced to her way way back.

Anyway, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, please be mindful of the portions/slices of the baon to prevent choking for younger school kids. Also, caution on the food allergies as well as whatever baon guidelines implemented on your little one’s school. So let’s get started.

School Baon Ideas Recap:

MONDAY — Parmesan chicken wings, Avocado-Cheese Mini Sandwiches, and garlic peanuts.

Glad that my daughter likes avocadoes a lot and since they are in season, i decided to pack it for her school snack.

Glad that my daughter likes avocadoes a lot and since they are in season, i decided to pack it for her school snack.

TUESDAY — Suman (she insisted that I pack it with its original dahon packaging since she already learned how to unwrap it at home), plus some sungsong peanuts — she likes cracking the peanut shells. Tip if you want to pack suman for baon, freeze the suman the day you bought it; then on the day you want to pack it for baon just steam to reheat — or the easiest way is to steam it alongside your sinaing.

My daughter insisted on bringing a suman na may balat in school since according to her, she already knows how to peel it.

WEDNESDAY — Hard-boiled egg, muron (rice cake or kakanin flavored with chocolates and peanuts), cashew nuts. Like the suman, you can freeze the muron and just reheat it through steaming on the day you want to pack it in her baonbox.

Ever since she got to taste Muron, my daughter keeps on prodding me to buy some. It was live at first bite for her!

THURSDAY — Banana bread, raisins and cashew nuts.

FRIDAY (extended school day) — Smoked boneless bangus, rice, banana chips, strawberry yogurt, and fancy mixed nuts.

Achie’s baon ideas recap — Week #8.

Hello everyone! I know classes have been suspended today, but still some mommies would have to plan out their little one’s school baons for the whole week. So as usual ill be sharing with you weekly baon ideas through a recap of the school snacks I packed for my school girl last week.

Weekly baon ideas for kids

If you are new to this #baonserye I share on a weekly basis photos of Achie’s baon boxes throughout the past week to help newbie school mamas map out their child’s baon for the current week. (Click here for our past weekly baon series)

As I always say, please be mindful of the portion sizes vis-a-vis your child’s age as some food items or portions shown in the photo can be a choking hazard to pre-schoolers. Special attention on the rambutan mommies – please replace with another fruit if your child is less than seven years old and is not yet familiar as to how safely eat this fruit.

Caution as well with the allergies your child may have and the school guidelines on what your child may or may not bring for #schoolbaon. So without further ado here’s —

This Week’s baon ideas for your school kid:

MONDAY — Good mood pancit bihon (good mood kasi wala halos toyo 😂😂✌✌), mini slices of toasted bread, and some quail eggs.

I intentionally used less soy sauce on the pancit so that it will not be salty for my child. Kaya i named it

I intentionally used less soy sauce on the pancit so that it will not be salty for my child. Kaya i named it “good mood” pancit — ala halos toyo eh. pancit is actually a great baon idea, just do not pack it while it is still hot so that it would not spoil.

TUESDAY — Cheese Pandesal and then some peeled fresh rambutan — please replace with another fruit if child is younger than 7years old and is not yet familiar about the proper way of eating this fruit. you may choose other fruits for your weekly baon ideas too.

My daughter loves rambutan and so when it is in season, I really have to buy 😊

WEDNESDAY — Tortang giniling wedges, otap, and organic juice box.

Forgot to pack some banana ketchup with this. Haha.

FRIDAY (extended school day) — Tuna croissant, choco wafer cubes, chocnut treat, and baked cheese biscuits. had this baon idea because my eldest mentioned that it may be fun to not eat rice sometimes for school lunch during Fridays.

Because my eldest helped me with my tupiin, and was extra helpful the whole week -- chocnut it is!

School snack baon ideas week #7

This week went by so fast, I almost failed to realize that it is the weekend already. Sharing with you school snack baon ideas for the coming week as i recall what I have packed for my daughter this past week.

If you are new to this baonserye, hope you heed our reminder to mind the portions of the snacks for possible choking hazards. Also keep in mind possible allergies your child may have, and the baon policies enforced in your child’s school. My eldest always has a water bottle with her that I don’t get to include in the photo.

So without further ado here’s our —

School snack baon ideas for week seven:

MONDAY: Cheesy baked potatoes and mini peanut butter sandwiches.

Cheesy baked potatoes are easy to make. Boil marble potatoes for 10 minutes. Slice into quarters and arrange on baking cups. Top with grated cheese and bake for about five minutes.

My daughter said she loved this baon combo because it was easy to eat

TUESDAY – banana-peanut butter roll-ups, boiled marble potatoes in olive oil sprinkled with a bit of salt and pepper, and ripe mango cubes.

The banana roll ups was a hit to my eldest who loves to smother peanut butter on lakatan.

Chose to pack an easy baon because i woke up late for this day. Glad my daughter still appreciated what I had prepared.

Hi everyone, pardon this late post of achie’s weekly baon recap. As mentioned in one of our Instagram posts last week, ill be combining Achie’s baon recap weeks five and six. This is because in those two weeks, Achie only had six days of classes due to the inclement weather.

Hopefully this baon recap wont be too late to help newbie school mommies plan your little school child’s baon for the week.

Like what I always say, please be mindful of the portions and slices of the food items as they may be a choking hazard for your child. Also, please pay attention to possible allergies your child may have on the food suggested in this weekly baon plan, as well as the baon policies imposed in your child’s school. Again im not claiming that these are all healthy — im just like any mom who is trying her best to provide snacks to nourish their child throughout the school day.

If you are a new reader of this Happy Pinay Mommy series, please know that Fridays are extended school days for Achie hence I pack more baon for her during that day. She also has a water bottle everyday that I dont get to include in the photos.

So here’s the recap of baon ideas for weeks 5 and 6:

1. Week 5, Monday — Overnight oats, boiled saba slices and soymilk.

My kids love any type of banana including nilagang saba so I pack boiled plantains it for achie every few weeks.

So without further ado, here’s week number four of our weekly baon serye —

This Week’s Baon Ideas:

My daughter told me after school last monday, that Ithe banana oancakes would have been a bigger hit if it has nutella on top. Okay noted!

I did not expect the lumpiang turon to turn out really yummy, even my toddlers liked it!

My kids can eat fried plantain for breakfast, for snack or even with their ulam. It is a staple for us really.

THURSDAY –– Penoy, garlic peanuts, and herbed marble potatoes. The potatoes were easy to cook, i boiled them the night before — about 12 minutes. The next morning i just sliced it in half, and heated it up in a pan with olive oil with butter, a pinch of salt, pepper, paprika, and dried basil.

So I introduced my kids to penoy and balut several moons ago and they liked penoy a lot. So when we ran an evening errand achie asked if we could stop buy the store that sells balut penoy so she could being some to school. When we got home they ate some and I refrigerated the others. The refrigerated ones were still good the next morning and so I packed it for her.

FRIDAY (extended school day) — Papaya chunks, chocolate wafer cubes, dried mangoes, gelatin and tocino with scrambled egg and rice.

Achie does not eat tocino before, and so when I learned to prep homemade tocino, i prepped it in such a way that will suit her taste buds. Glad she likes it now.

Baon ideas for kids. Here’s week number two of our “This Week’s Baon” series.

As promised, i will be sharing Achiebelle’s school baon every end of the week to somehow help newbie school mamas on their baon list for their school children.

Achie will be having extended school hours every Friday (starting the past week) so I had to prepare lunch as well.

This week’s baon ideas for kids

Another reminder though — please mind the pieces/slices of your child’s baon and if they are super young, be mindful of possible choking hazards. Also, watch out for allergies and school policies on bringing nuts or nut-by products as a snack, as well as other school baon policies. As always, i am not claiming these are all super healthy 😊

Anyway here’s her snack box contents:

MONDAY — Fried suman chunks, ripe mangoes, green peas crackers and ube piaya.

FRIDAY — Snack is hard boiled eggs, store bought cookies, and yakult. Rice meal is shredded chicken with sweet onion sauce on the side, and green beans.

If only I had the talent in baking, i would bake homemade choco chip cookies. But always palpak eh. Share me techniques and tried and tested recipes please.

I posted over the weekend our weekly school snack baon ideas posts over at instagram @happypinaymommy. Im hoping to share with you on a weekly basis, the snack box contents of my little school girl so that newbie school mamas could have more ideas on what to pack for their school kids in the coming week. Think of it as a weekly baon plan to help you map out your child’s school snack for the week.
I will endeavor to post on a weekly basis for your easy reference. Weekends most likely to help you through your grocery shopping. Of course i will continue to update our Facebook baon serye album so that you can just tag yourselves or browse there easily as well. Check out our past baon serye posts for your children here.

School snack baon ideas posted every weekend

For the pilot week of our “this week’s baon” snack box series, please find below short descriptions of my eldest’s baon box contents.
Again, am not claiming that these are all super healthy (but it is not all bad either). Like other moms i would just like to provide snack food she would enjoy eating, fill her up and give her the energy to learn and play.

P.S. She has a water bottle with her every.single.day the extra drinks are just that — extra.

This week’s baon: week #1

MONDAY — Mini peanut butter sandwiches, corn on the cob, strawberry yogurt, and panaderia twisty donut.

TUESDAY — Fresh Papaya chunks, dried mangoes, wafer cubes, a piece of gelatin, and a fruit punch box.

The fresh papaya chunks were frozen overnight, and i added a squeeze of calamansi before packing it up. Come recess time it had been a cold, sweet but tangy treat!

Breakfast Food Recipes Children Can Eat in the Car

Here’s a list of Breakfast Food Recipes Children Can Eat in the Car. (Photo Credits with Modifications)

In the run up to the opening of classes, I have thought of coming up with another article which is Breakfast Food Recipes Children Can Eat in the Car. This is again part of our series on baon and breakfast recipes and ideas for our school aged children.

I have recently posted about quick breakfasts that us moms can prepare during those mornings when everything has been crazy and alarm clocks have been over-snoozed. But what if there literally is no more time to have breakfast, and the morning was just enough to pack baons, brush teeth, wash the face and change into the school uniform?? First time parents may say YUCK to this, but those with more than one children who are iof school age definitely know what I am talking about.

But during hurried mornings, we can only balance punctuality in school and nutrition, hence the point of this article. I am thinking that the solution to this is to give children nutritious  breakfast items that they can eat in the car or aboard their respective school buses. Not too messy of course, and some can be pre-made in bulk the day before with the left overs frozen for future re-heating! So, without further ado, here are some breakfast meal recipes your children can eat en route to their school:

Breakfast Recipes Children Can Eat in the Car

1. Sandwiches – Of course good old sandwiches are the easiest food to munch in the car! Check out the easy and healthy sandwich recipes that I have posted in my past blog article here. Again, we have an almost unlimited choices of bread – usual bread loaves (or TASTY as dubbed in the 80s), pandesals, hamburger buns and even more sophisticated soft ones like focaccia, or ciabatta. Don’t forget the cheese!

2. Wraps – This is not too common in the Philippine setting but children can enjoy this. Fillings children will surely enjoy are those that have chicken, egg, ground beef or pork, and lots of cheese of course. Here are some recipes of breakfast wraps you may want to prepare for your child. This is ideal to make when we have left over chicken in the house, or even Adobo.

(Post Continued Below)

3. Breakfast smoothies – Of course this is one of the easiest to prepare, in fact you can make it the night before, and just pour it in your child’s insulated bottle (here’s a great deal for a spill proof insulated and non-toxic tumbler for your child). With a blender, Osterizer or Nutri-bullet, the easiest to prepare would be a Choco Banana Smoothie (banana, powdered milk chocolate like Hershey’s Cocoa, Swiss Miss, Goya, or Cocotime, plus a cup of almond, soy or cow’s milk and crushed ice), Plain avocado or Choco-Avocado Smoothie, Strawberry or Mango and yogurt smoothie, all of which are kid-approved and very appetizing.

4. Panwiches – If you have left over pancakes, you can just easily assemble a panwich for your child to eat in the car or school bus. Just slap on a hamburger patty, or even peanut butter and jelly (plus slices of fruit inside), cream cheese and jam, then you have a breakfast on the go for kids right there. You can also make some pancakes ahead of time, and freeze it for later use.

5. Store-bought nutritious pastries – I know most of us here may not have the time and equipment to bake from scratch, so buying FRESH (not prepacked) pastries like muffins, banana loaves, carrot and raisin bread, turn-overs, and pocket pies could be very helpful for super busy mornings. Stores where we usually buy fresh pastries include Purple Oven, TLJ, The French Baker (like TLJ they have big discounts during closing time), and Bread Talk. You may also want to check out the fresh pastries from Red Ribbon, Goldilocks, Fortune Bakeshop, and S & R. Again, the key here is get something that has to be consumed within a week because that means it does not have a lot of preservatives.

5. Siopao – Yes, these are yummy on-the-go breakfast item that even your husband will appreciate (that is if he loves Siopao too). The trick here is when you are in your favorite Chinese Restaurant, order at least two sets for takeaway, then freeze it when you get home. You can then steam it or reheat it during your crazy school day morning! Alternatively, you may also want to purchase those that are frozen, and are ready for steaming available in the grocery store nearest you.

6. Waffles – If you have a waffle maker at home then go ahead and make some for your child. You can opt for filled or plain ones, and what I am sure of is that your child will definitely enjoy! Like pancakes, waffles can be frozen for later use.

7. Breakfast Bars – You can make some from scratch, but it will not hurt if you buy something from the store, provided that it is not plain sugary and non-nutritious. Choose a high-fibre variety so you will not be guilty of just sending your child to school with it plus milk drink.

Make sure to pack for them extra water and drinks for their on-the-go breakfast as the water you may be packing for them might be for their snack time or lunch break. Here is the spill-proof water bottle I will be buying for my child.

It is also important to pack these breakfasts in appropriate packaging like reusable containers (this one is what I will buy for achiebell’s on the go brekky), or a brown bag, or a reusable sandwich or pastry bag made of linen cloth.

We all know that the metro is saddled with traffic problems, and that we have to balance our eagerness to make sure that our child does not arrive late in school, to our eagerness to ensure their stomachs have been filled with nutritious food for breakfast.

Breakfast is a very critical meal for the day. It ensures that our children will have enough energy, and mental alertness to absorb lessons for the day and participate in physical activities in school. Let us all make an effort to make sure they get their fill of a nutritious first meal. (If you are in no hurry, here are great breakfast ideas cooked from scratch)

Will be coming up with more posts like this (Breakfast Food Recipes Children Can Eat in the Car) to help all of us become more intentional with the food that we serve our children. If you have the time, hope you could drop by my Facebook page and hit the like button, or follow our Instagram account so you can receive regular updates from Happypinaymommy.com direct on your newsfeed.

Thank you so much!

Been a while again since I last posted an article. Been very busy in the home front lately, plus a bit of much needed relaxation hence the long hiatus. I figured, I should be writing about school snack baon ideas for Filipino kids since most of us will soon be preparing once again lunch baons, and snacks for our children.

Anyway, in the last two weeks before classes start (once again for some schools), we moms should already be filling our arsenal with recipe ideas for breakfasts, snacks as well as packed lunch ideas, and after school snacks. I came up with specific social media posts for this so that it will be easier for you ladies to find it should you choose to save the photo on your phone or take a screenshot of it.

School Snack Baon Ideas for Filipino Kids

The recipes for the suggested baons, breakfasts, after school snacks as well as packed lunch ulams can be found in past articles published here in our blog.

I will be publishing it here too for those who may want ready to click links on the recipes.

I promise to soon come up with quick and on the go breakfast series, before the school  season starts. Watch out as well for our blog post on suggested lunch boxes and tumblers. We all know how stressful the start of classes can be. I have yet to shop for my eldest’s school needs – bags, school supplies, shoes and all. I am pretty sure I would not want to do it this weekend and on the next simply because the malls and bookstores will surely be jampacked.

For those of you who will be trekking the malls this weekend and next, good luck.
