How You Can Feel Confident Again as a Mother

Motherhood is a wonderful, magical experience. Despite the magic, motherhood is also one of the most challenging times in a woman’s life. Some mothers are naturally confident in their abilities. Most mothers need a little convincing that there is a supermom just waiting to be freed from the uncertainties that they experience everyday.

Feeling uncertain isn’t all bad though. It just means that you recognize the gift and responsibility you have in helping your little bundle of joy develop into the person that he or she would want to be in the future. Don’t worry if confidence doesn’t come naturally at first. Your baby already thinks you’re the greatest. This little guide will help remind you that you are too!

BE REALISTIC

People often say that your life will change dramatically once you have a child. Embrace the changes with open arms! According to Erica Komisar, author of Being There: Why Prioritizing Motherhood in The First Three Years Matter, “If you accept the slow pace of being with a baby, focus on being in the moment together, and reduce your expectations of how much you can do everyday you will be a more content and more confident mom.”

A STRONG SUPPORT SYSTEM IS KEY

Filipinos are usually open to lending a helping hand and some tips. Don’t be afraid to ask your mother or mother-in-law for help. They’ve been through what you’re going through. Tap into their rich experience. Your partner is also there to share the responsibilities with you. All you have to do is ask.

If things get a little too overwhelming, decide if you need another person in your Mommy Dream Team. Don’t know where to start? Check out this article we wrote on Happy Pinay Mommy on hiring a yaya and househelp from local agencies.

BUT DON’T FALL INTO THE BLACKHOLE OF BAD ADVICE

It takes a village to raise a child… or a barangay! It’s good to have people around but you also have to be careful of the advice that you take. Keep in mind that YOU know YOUR BABY the best. Trust your intuition! It’s your own superpower.

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF

Usually the first thing that goes out of the window when the baby comes in is the stylish woman that you used to see in the mirror. There’s nothing wrong with giving yourself even just 15 minutes a day to help yourself feel better and more confident. You can start by dressing up a bit even when you’re just doing errands. Filipino fashion label BNY Jeans suggests going back to basics because being comfortable doesn’t mean being in your daster.

STOP TRYING TO BE PERFECT

Another source of worry for mothers is the need to be perfect. Don’t believe everything you see on social media. More often than not, those displays of #ParentingGoals don’t usually tell the whole story. There is no such a thing as a PERFECT mother so give yourself enough breathing space when things don’t go as planned. Letting go of the need to be perfect will make you happier and more confident.

If you are looking for knitting and crocheting supplies in the Philippines then this post is for you.

I have compiled a list of places where you can by knitting and crocheting supplies in Manila and elsewhere in the country. I remember for my Home Economics class we had to source for crocheting threads, which was then available in sewing supplies stores and sometimes the National Bookstore.

But for hardcore knitting and crocheting fanatics, supplies in the bookstore may not be enough for their big-time projects.

Here is a list of where you can buy Knitting and Crocheting Supplies in the Philippines:

  1. Divisoria – If you want to see a dizzying array of yarns and the crafting and knitting supplies then head on to Tabora Street – yes the same street where you can find Cloth Diaper Fabric, DIY Sewing Supplies, Mason Jars and Party Needs! It is a crafters haven out there so be happy and head to this area! They have knitting and tapestry needles, yarns by the box and cones, polyfills, and a lot more!
  2. Bookstores – As I have mentioned, yarns and other crocheting and knitting supplies can be bought from bookstores like national bookstore. They may not have a vast selection, but if you are looking for a generic color, then this outlet is relatively accessible versus going all the way to DIVI.

Malls – Apart from the textile sections of some department stores like SM (in Makati, among others) and Landmark (in Makati as well), major malls have specialty shops that carry crochet and knitting supplies. These include Carolina’s which has branches in Glorietta and Megamall, among other branches. Carolina’s have knitting needles, and the HELE Project Reminder that is Crochet hooks in various sizes they also have crochet threads and yarns, among other knitting and crocheting supplies. If you are from the QC Area then you may wanna head to Araneta Center particularly in Farmer’s Cubao to check out VC Trading – they have craft supplies which include knitting and crocheting supplies, plus embroidery supplies, and even fabrics!
  2. Online Stores – You no longer have to make the trek to DIVI or brave the traffic to go to malls to score your much needed knitting and crocheting supplies. There are a lot of online stores now that carry these crafting needs and they include:
  • Yarn Source Manila – Prides itself as being the first ever online yarn store in Manila. They have various colors of yarns, different kinds of crocheting hooks – from Aluminum , to plastic, to those meant for lacework. They even have wool, eyelash yarns, rug yarns, chunky yarns and more. Check out their store here.
  • Gantsilyo Guru – Has everything related to knitting and crocheting! Thy also have swing supplies like rotary cutters! They have kits and patterns as well, so head to their site, and I am sure you will stalk their shop for hours! Here is a link to their website.

Buy DIY Party SUpplies in the Philippines

Want to throw a DIY party? Here’s where you can buy DIY Party Supplies in the Philippines. (Photo Credits)

Parties are fun, but it could be very expensive. And this is why most moms who would like to save up on their children’s parties would want to try the DIY or Do-it-yourself route in some (or all) aspects of the party they are throwing.

There are many places where you could buy DIY Party Supplies in the Philippines. In Manila for instance, Divisoria is the most common bagsakan area where you really could buy everything you would have wanted for your DIY Party in Manila at a super cheap cost.

But not all moms have the time and energy to trek to Divi. So for those moms this post is for you.

Where to buy DIY Party Supplies in the Philippines:

  1. Divisoria – The malls in Divisoria like 168 has all the party needs that you may like.. from balloons, to decorations, to give-aways, and game prizes, they have it all at a tiny fraction of the cost that you would have to shell out if you were to buy in malls! At the same time you may also head to Ilaya and Tabora Streets (yes the same streets where you can buy some DIY Cloth Diaper Supplies and Fabric which I wrote about here and here) for other DIY supplies.
  2. Malls – Some malls have party supplies shops that sell DIY party goods minus the stress that comes with divi shopping. These include the bazaar area in Market, Market Taguig (I think it is named Eden’s), Celebrations Party Central in Rockwell Powerplant Mall (dizzying Pinterest-style stocks, super fun!), Invitation House at Greenbelt 5 (nice pinterest-style craft materials – you can also order customized birthday buntings in Manila here, as well as invites, personalized chocolate wrappers, and the like). If you are from the San Juan or Quezon City area, then you may wanna check out the party supplies stalls over at V-Mall and Greenhills particularly Regina’s. Toy stores like Toys R Us also have a party supplies aisle, and so with big book stores!

(Post continued below)

====================================================================

You may also want to read:

===========================================================

  1. Department Stores – If you are gunning for a pinterest-worthy candy buffet but you want to remain on budget then check out the displays over at Landmark Makati, SM Department stores (the bigger ones like that in SM Makati has a lot in store!), as well as Robinson’s Department Stores. They have nice tiered muffin/cupcake holders, Giant Mason-Jar like juice jugs, as well as other wares that you may use in your candy buffet!
  2. Dapitan Arcade – Again, if you are aiming for an “instagrammable” birthday spread, then head on over at Dapitan QC (yes the same place where you can buy super affordable Christmas and Home Decors) and check out the homewares there that are usually unique, can be classic – can be avant garde! I am sure you will buy more than what you intended to buy which is actually bad for the budget but happy for your mommy heart.
  3. “Odd Ball” Stores – If you are from the South then you may want to check out Uniwide Warehouse along Sucat Road. I earlier included this place as a great location to shop for cheap and cheerful Christmas decors, but hey they have great DIY Party supplies too  but it is up to you to rummage and look around in their big warehouse. For those in the QC Area, head on over at Katipunan, and across La Vista – I am sure you know this if you are from the area – you will see Shoppersville Supermarket. Go to the second floor and there you can buy the bamboo pabitin stuff if your party will be needing such, and they also have pinatas among other games for the parties. They also have super cheap but funny-looking candies that will remind you of your gradeschool years (hello Moony and Mikmik, and Lala)! They also have plastic balloons, divi toys etc that you can put inside your party lootbags. They also have other party favors, party hats, and banners. Another useful tip – they also customize cakes at a very affordable price – check out their bakeshop. You may also wanna go around your neighborhood to check out your community party supplies shop. If you do not need a lot, then Toys R Us also has themed plates, hats, serving wares, and lootbags, plus balloons for you, which are actually very similar to what you can see in Rustan’s Supermarkets!
  4. Facebook Shops – There are many facebook-based shops that sell party supplies, but here are some you may wanna check out: My Little Party Shop Manila – has super nice party supplies for your theme parties which include serving wares, buntings, decors and balloons – here is a link to their FB Shop. If you however are looking for the online Divisoria type of FB Shop for your DIY Party then check out Party Items Express for hassle-free shopping. They have balloons, decors, party favors, special game prizes, loot bags, as well as other craft supplies. Check out their FB Page here. Marykiel’s on the other hand has various types of balloons as well as other DIY Party supplies in the Philippines. Here is a link to their shop.
  5. UPDATED: June 23, 2016: 854 Party Mania Is a haven for DIY Party moms! And why not they have almost everything that you could ever need. They have a store in Divi, but they have this website (which according to them is only surf-able via google chrome), where you can place your orders. Check out their stuff, it is very affordable as well! Here is a link to their website.
  6. UPDATED: June 23, 2016: Party Basics Online — This is the same line of party products that you usually see in malls and stores. Yes they have an online shopping platform so you can avoid the traffic and shop at the comforts of your own home! Here is a link to their website.
  7. UPDATED August 04, 2016: Party Pieces by Zoey — Is another party supplies shop that offers nice and creative DIY supplies like plates, lootbags, decors and even invites. Check out their FB shop here.
  8. UPDATED August 4, 2016: Mara Ella’s Party Supplies — Is a Cebu-Based Party supplies shop that has a wide array of loot bag fillers, party bags and pails, DIY Decor and more. Check out their FB Store here.

So, there you have it. I am sure there are other places and Online Shops where you may buy DIY Party Supplies in the Philippines. I will be updating this post as I discover more shops. If you have the time, hope you could drop by my Facebook page and hit the like button, so you can receive regular updates from Happypinaymommy.com direct on your newsfeed.

Buy Mason Jars in the Philippines

Are you looking to Buy Mason Jars in the Philippines? (Photo Credits)

If you are looking for Mason Jars, and where to buy them then this post is for you. I so like mason jars because they are classic, functional, and at the same time a great way to organize a home. That is why when I say a box of mason jars in a mall outlet near our place I grabbed a box, and made use of the many jars in there for our drinks, salads, soups (for serving-sized portions), our kitchen supplies, make ahead meals in serving sizes, cooking oil for recycling and the like.

Before I get carried away, I will be giving you already the list of where you can buy mason jars in the Philippines. These stores could either be physical stores,or could be online as well.

Places where you can buy Mason Jars in the Philippines:

  1. Department Stores – You will be surprised because mason jars are aplenty in some department stores particularly SM and Robinsons’, and they come in various sizes and colors. Some even the mug type. If you want to just buy a couple, then it is ok to buy here, but if you will be using it as gifts, giveaways or you just want to buy in bulk, then read the rest of this post.
  2. True Value – Here’s where I bought my first box of Mason Jars, and I have been buying here ever since. It is relatively cheap. More than a year ago the 16 oz wide-mouth jar, if I am not mistaken will cost less than P70.00 if bought in boxes. There are true value outlets in Rockwell, Century City, Glorietta, etc

(Post continued below)

You may also want to read:

===========================================================

  1. Lazada– If you want to shop online, and want to settle on a cash-on-delivery basis then you might as well buy your Mason jars over at Lazada. You can get this set for less than P300.00 – buy it here. They also have bigger mason jars that are great for when you have visitors over at your home.
  2. Divisoria – For those who are brave enough to go to Divisoria amidst the heavy traffic, then why not head to the Tabora Street and find mason jars there that are sold individually or by bulk.
  3. Mason Jars PH – This is a Faceboook shop that sells a lot Ball Mason Jars in different styles, sizes and colors! Mason Jars PH for instance has a lot of Mason Jar styles in stock and they ship nationwide. Here is a link to their shop.
  4. Instagram Shops – There are also a lot of Instagram Shops that sell Mason Jars, and these include All in the Bag — see the link here and then Green Selections, among others. Green Selections for one sells plastic storage caps for Mason Jars! (Truly what you will want especially if you will be storing liquids in your jar! Love this!), check out her shop here.
  5. OLX – You can find a lot of Mason Jar sellers in this site. Usual caution though should be exercised when buying as some do not have Social Media Shops or websites where you can make follow-ups if ever.

So, there you have it. I am sure there are other places and Online Shops where you may buy mason jars in the Philippines. I will be updating this post as I discover more shops.
