Healthy School Baon Ideas

At the risk of sounding like a broken record please mind the portions/slices of the snack items and make it suitable/safe for super young kids. Apart from possible choking hazards, please keep in mind as well possible allergens your child may have as well as the baon guidelines implemented in your child’s school.

Week #10 of school baon ideas for kids

Without further ado, here’s a recap of Achie’s school baon last week:

MONDAY — Eggy bread, matcha green tea bread sticks, and fresh milk.

Just glad that achie shares my love for sunny side up eggs and green tea / matcha flavored stuff!

Two words: By Request. My kids love sweet corn and so it is a no-brainer to pack it for her in school. I decided to use reusable chopsticks as her handle instead of the usual barbecue stick.

Healthy baon ideas that adhere to dep ed nutrition guidelines

I have been sharing photos of my eldest’s baon for about two years already and some of the comments I get from our FB Page is that some schools implement stricter guidelines on what baon or snacks students can bring. Healthy baon ideas are what they need. Not that what we are posting are unhealthy, but it is not nutritious enough to meet the Dep Ed guidelines according to the moms.

Healthy baon ideas

According to these moms, most of the rules reflect the Department of Education’s memorandum no. 13 series of 2017 issued March last year. While the department order generally refers to food made available in school canteens, some schools chose to adopt the food guidelines as their “baon” guidelines as well.

So what can the students pack for snack and what snacks are prohibited? The list is long but it generally disallows children from bringing processed food (hotdog, nuggets, bacon, pancit canton), heavily salted food, sweets (including pastries, donuts, pies, cakes, chocolates and sweets), deep-fried food like french fries, fish balls etc., and any type of sugary beverage including chocolate milk, sweet milk, yogurt drink, and juices except real fresh buco juice and those that have a very low level of sugar content.

And while this is good news for us parents, it also means that we have to take more time to plan and prepare our little one’s baons.

Healthy school baon guide

So to help newbie mommies map out their school kid’s baon I took this challenge and prepared school snacks that adhere to the Dep-ed guidelines. Yes it is hard, but it is doable. It is for our children’s good anyway.

Hope you can check out the album in our FB Page @happypinaymommy.com or check out this album link:
https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1035757419919835&id=415333231962260

Also if you have long been following our weekly baonserye, you may notice that some of the baon boxes i shared are already in the baon ideas album. I did not mean to be redundant, i just want our Pasado sa Dep Ed Baon Series to be more organised for moms who would only need these specific baon ideas.

Thanks and happy baon prepping!

I challenged myself the past week to come up with healthy baon ideas.

Did not have time to post this earlier today, but I am hoping the healthy baon ideas in this post are not too late to help you with your baon planning. Here is achie’s baon recap for the past week to help newbie school mamas plan their little one’s baon for the new week.

Healthy Baon Ideas for The Week

This week, I challenged myself to come up with healthy baon ideas for Achie. Not that the past baon snacks i have prepared are unhealthy but more because I wanted to reduce the presence of processed food in my family’s diet. REDUCE being the operative word because I know in my heart that it will be really hard to totally eliminate it (but im sure it is doable as some families have done it) given the many factors that push moms like me to choose to serve processed food from time to time. No judgements whatsoever, i do not know what challenges you have, I am imperfect as well, but I just tried to make cleaner baons the past weeks and see if my kid will be happy with it too. Glad that she is happy with the baons as most of them I have already introduced to her way way back.

Anyway, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, please be mindful of the portions/slices of the baon to prevent choking for younger school kids. Also, caution on the food allergies as well as whatever baon guidelines implemented on your little one’s school. So let’s get started.

School Baon Ideas Recap:

MONDAY — Parmesan chicken wings, Avocado-Cheese Mini Sandwiches, and garlic peanuts.

Glad that my daughter likes avocadoes a lot and since they are in season, i decided to pack it for her school snack.

Glad that my daughter likes avocadoes a lot and since they are in season, i decided to pack it for her school snack.

TUESDAY — Suman (she insisted that I pack it with its original dahon packaging since she already learned how to unwrap it at home), plus some sungsong peanuts — she likes cracking the peanut shells. Tip if you want to pack suman for baon, freeze the suman the day you bought it; then on the day you want to pack it for baon just steam to reheat — or the easiest way is to steam it alongside your sinaing.

My daughter insisted on bringing a suman na may balat in school since according to her, she already knows how to peel it.

WEDNESDAY — Hard-boiled egg, muron (rice cake or kakanin flavored with chocolates and peanuts), cashew nuts. Like the suman, you can freeze the muron and just reheat it through steaming on the day you want to pack it in her baonbox.

Ever since she got to taste Muron, my daughter keeps on prodding me to buy some. It was live at first bite for her!

THURSDAY — Banana bread, raisins and cashew nuts.

Banana bread will always be in our baon rotation because my daughter absolutely loves it!

FRIDAY (extended school day) — Smoked boneless bangus, rice, banana chips, strawberry yogurt, and fancy mixed nuts.

Achie's baon ideas recap -- Week #8.

Achie’s baon ideas recap — Week #8.

Hello everyone! I know classes have been suspended today, but still some mommies would have to plan out their little one’s school baons for the whole week. So as usual ill be sharing with you weekly baon ideas through a recap of the school snacks I packed for my school girl last week.

Weekly baon ideas for kids

If you are new to this #baonserye I share on a weekly basis photos of Achie’s baon boxes throughout the past week to help newbie school mamas map out their child’s baon for the current week. (Click here for our past weekly baon series)

As I always say, please be mindful of the portion sizes vis-a-vis your child’s age as some food items or portions shown in the photo can be a choking hazard to pre-schoolers. Special attention on the rambutan mommies – please replace with another fruit if your child is less than seven years old and is not yet familiar as to how safely eat this fruit.

Caution as well with the allergies your child may have and the school guidelines on what your child may or may not bring for #schoolbaon. So without further ado here’s —

This Week’s baon ideas for your school kid:

MONDAY — Good mood pancit bihon (good mood kasi wala halos toyo 😂😂✌✌), mini slices of toasted bread, and some quail eggs.

I intentionally used less soy sauce on the pancit so that it will not be salty for my child. Kaya i named it

I intentionally used less soy sauce on the pancit so that it will not be salty for my child. Kaya i named it “good mood” pancit — ala halos toyo eh. pancit is actually a great baon idea, just do not pack it while it is still hot so that it would not spoil.

TUESDAY — Cheese Pandesal and then some peeled fresh rambutan — please replace with another fruit if child is younger than 7years old and is not yet familiar about the proper way of eating this fruit. you may choose other fruits for your weekly baon ideas too.

My daughter loves rambutan and so when it is in season, I really have to buy 😊

My daughter loves rambutan and so when it is in season, I really have to buy 😊 so there, it has been included as some of the fruits in my weekly baon ideas.

WEDNESDAY — Tortang giniling wedges, otap, and organic juice box.

Forgot to pack some banana ketchup with this. Haha.

FRIDAY (extended school day) — Tuna croissant, choco wafer cubes, chocnut treat, and baked cheese biscuits. had this baon idea because my eldest mentioned that it may be fun to not eat rice sometimes for school lunch during Fridays.

Because my eldest helped me with my tupiin, and was extra helpful the whole week -- chocnut it is!

Hope this week’s baon ideas will help you map out your child’s school snack for the week.

Gorgeous Monday everyone! Sharing with you Achiebelle’s snackboxes the past week as part of our weekly baon series: this week’s baon.

Hopefully, this could help out newbie school mamas map out the baon of their little ones this new school week. Again, as i usually say, please mind the portions for choking hazards, allergies, and snack regulations in your child’s school.

So without further ado, here’s week number four of our weekly baon serye —

This Week’s Baon Ideas:

MONDAY — Failed maruya kaya let’s just call it saba banana pancakes, baked cheese biscuits and yakult.

My daughter told me after school last monday, that Ithe banana oancakes would have been a bigger hit if it has nutella on top. Okay noted!

TUESDAY — Small apple (she insists on taking a whole fruit instead of sliced or cubed ones), raisins, and experimental turon — turon with camote instead of banana and langka.

I did not expect the lumpiang turon to turn out really yummy, even my toddlers liked it!

WEDNESDAY — Fried saba banana sticks, fresh ripe mango cubes, and cheddar cheese sticks.

My kids can eat fried plantain for breakfast, for snack or even with their ulam. It is a staple for us really.

THURSDAY –– Penoy, garlic peanuts, and herbed marble potatoes. The potatoes were easy to cook, i boiled them the night before — about 12 minutes. The next morning i just sliced it in half, and heated it up in a pan with olive oil with butter, a pinch of salt, pepper, paprika, and dried basil.

So I introduced my kids to penoy and balut several moons ago and they liked penoy a lot. So when we ran an evening errand achie asked if we could stop buy the store that sells balut penoy so she could being some to school. When we got home they ate some and I refrigerated the others. The refrigerated ones were still good the next morning and so I packed it for her.

FRIDAY (extended school day) — Papaya chunks, chocolate wafer cubes, dried mangoes, gelatin and tocino with scrambled egg and rice.

Achie does not eat tocino before, and so when I learned to prep homemade tocino, i prepped it in such a way that will suit her taste buds. Glad she likes it now.

Baon ideas for kids. Here’s week number two of our “This Week’s Baon” series.

As promised, i will be sharing Achiebelle’s school baon every end of the week to somehow help newbie school mamas on their baon list for their school children.

Achie will be having extended school hours every Friday (starting the past week) so I had to prepare lunch as well.

This week’s baon ideas for kids

Another reminder though — please mind the pieces/slices of your child’s baon and if they are super young, be mindful of possible choking hazards. Also, watch out for allergies and school policies on bringing nuts or nut-by products as a snack, as well as other school baon policies. As always, i am not claiming these are all super healthy 😊

FRIDAY — Snack is hard boiled eggs, store bought cookies, and yakult. Rice meal is shredded chicken with sweet onion sauce on the side, and green beans.

If only I had the talent in baking, i would bake homemade choco chip cookies. But always palpak eh. Share me techniques and tried and tested recipes please.

I posted over the weekend our weekly school snack baon ideas posts over at instagram @happypinaymommy. Im hoping to share with you on a weekly basis, the snack box contents of my little school girl so that newbie school mamas could have more ideas on what to pack for their school kids in the coming week. Think of it as a weekly baon plan to help you map out your child’s school snack for the week.
I will endeavor to post on a weekly basis for your easy reference. Weekends most likely to help you through your grocery shopping. Of course i will continue to update our Facebook baon serye album so that you can just tag yourselves or browse there easily as well. Check out our past baon serye posts for your children here.

School snack baon ideas posted every weekend

For the pilot week of our “this week’s baon” snack box series, please find below short descriptions of my eldest’s baon box contents.
Again, am not claiming that these are all super healthy (but it is not all bad either). Like other moms i would just like to provide snack food she would enjoy eating, fill her up and give her the energy to learn and play.

P.S. She has a water bottle with her every.single.day the extra drinks are just that — extra.

This week’s baon: week #1

MONDAY — Mini peanut butter sandwiches, corn on the cob, strawberry yogurt, and panaderia twisty donut.
