Now i Know how to cook tortang dulong, and I am sharing this recipe with you.

I have been meaning to cook Tortang Dulong since I heard it is nutritious, and of course, it tastes great. We usually order this in a take-out place and it is served crunchy. So when we were shopping at the grocery, we saw this and the mister suggested that we give it a try.

Easy way to cook tortang dulong or dulong omelette

So I immediately researched for the best way to cook it as an ulam (click here to know more information about dulong as a fish). For one, I know I can include it in my list of P100.00 ulam ideas, because this fish is not costly! I’m sure it is even cheaper in wet markets.

This one is about P140.00 per kilogram, and you will only need about 300 grams for an ulam yield for four persons. Perfect for our list of P100 Ulam Ideas this 2018.

The photo of the finished product (i used 50 grams — about 72 pesos) actually does not include the patties that I separated for the toddler and the baby (theirs were unsalted). I can say that about 300 grams will do, and that amount of fish, plus the other ingredients for the batter can be about a hundred pesos all in all. Definitely tortang dulong or duloing omelette is not bad for an ulam recipe for four!

So this is the batter mixture inspired by the recipe of my super idol, virtual cooking mentor Chef Vanjo of Panlasang Pinoy. Since i think my dulong is double the amount of what he mentioned in the recipe, here are the measurements for those of you who may want to give it a try:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 500g dulong
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Season with salt and pepper and garlic powder (separate an unseasoned batter mixture for your babies and toddlers)
  • Oil for frying
  • Lots of paper towels for drying off excess oils

Procedure:

  1. Wash the Dulong thoroughly first in a strainer. Set it aside.
  2. Mix all the batter ingredients, and once smooth, add in the fish and mix well.
  3. Heat oil in a pan. Once hot, ladle in the batter and fry like pancakes!
  4. You may dip with ketchup or vinegar (we used pinakurat). Best served with Achara on the side too!
