LEFT OVER MAKE OVER. Sinigang kagabi, mini lechon kawali na ngayong tanghali. Asim kilig lechon kawali that is yummy just the same.
In our household we try our best not to waste food. Left overs are eaten the next day, and is consumed as much as possible. Bukod sa mahal ang bilihin, I teach my children na nakakahiya naman sa Panginoon na magsayang kami ng grasya. I also make an effort to not cook too much para di din sila mag sawa agad at isang “replay” lang ang ulam.

To balance the iwas sawa factor, and conservation of time and energy in meal preparation, i usually freeze a portion of a big meal that I cook so that the following week we can have a ready to reheat meal in the freezer. Di na gagastos pa sa food delivery o pag eat out when too busy to cook. More meal planning tips can be found in our meal plans and recipes section here.

I learned this particular leftover makeover from a family friend who mentioned that she cooks a big potful of sinigang each time so that the next day she can make lechon kawali. I got curious, and oo nga it tastes good! 😊😊

So i had a little more liempo in our sinigang and tried the recipe our family friend mentioned -- lechon kawali using left over sinigang.

Sinigang na lechon kawali

So what I did was i heated oil enough to deep fry the liempo pieces that I have. While waiting for it to heat through i removed the liempo pieces from the sinigang broth and pat dried it using paper towel. You can also use a clean muslin for this purpose.

When the oil is hot enough, i deep fried the oieces until crispy. Drained the oil from it and served alongside our gulay lunch. No waste, extra ulam pa!
