How to cook hotteok (Sweet Korean Pancakes)

Hotteok is the perfect breakfast and meryenda for kids and the whole familia!

My first time to try cooking Hotteok. Not so perfect because i used a potato masher instead but it tasted divine with the super duper hot and ooey gooey fillings! Made it for merienda this afternoon and the kids loved it! We had the chocolate and the traditional cinnamon sugar filled korean sweet pancakes. Never thought i could make it from scratch. So yum! Here is the recipe:

HOTTEOK Recipe (Korean Sweet Pancakes):

1.5 Cups All Purpose Flour

1.5 tsp sugar

1.5 tsp yeast

2/3 cup warm milk

1 tbsp vegetable oil

1/2 tsp salt

Suggested filling combos:
Brown sugar, cinnamon and ground peanuts
Chocolate spread or nutella
Mozarella and drained kimchi

How to cook hotteok sweet korean pancake

Mix flour, sugar, salt and yeast (do not put the salt and yeast on top of each other as it may deactivate the yeast). Add the milk and the oil and make in into a round ball of dough.
Let rest for one hour in a bowl covered with a damp cloth. Punch the dough to get rid of air bubbles. Make a ball of dough out of it once again and let it rest for another 20 minutes.
Divide into two. Roll each half into a log and divide the log into six parts. Roll into a ball and flatten. Spoon the filling in the middle and gather the edges of the dough as if making a round baby siopao.
In a non stick pan, add a tablespoon of oil. Once hot add in the dough balls. After 10 seconds or so flatten with a spatula or a potato masher or that special hotteok tool if you happen to have it. Flip after about 90 seconds or when the other side is golden brown. Afte a minute or when golden brown take it off the pan, and enjoy while still hot. The filling will be very hot but very delicious as well.
Am imagining this will be great with red monggo paste or ube cheese too! Yum! Hope youll like it 😍 Till next post!
