Jesus is knocking on your door

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Revelation 3:20

Whenever someone knocks on our door, or rings our doorbell, we usually have an idea who that person is and why he is at our doorstep. We certainly know the time our spouse will be home, visitors usually call ahead before they come, and package deliveries are usually well-anticipated.

But there is someone who has been patiently waiting at our doorstep. We may not physically see Him, because He is not like the Panda or the Ninja waiting to give us a package. He is at the doorstep of our hearts, waiting for us to open up so He could give us His gift of Eternal light and salvation. In the Gospel of St. John Chapter 10:10, He said “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Has God been knocking on your door? Or you could not hear His knocking because the sound has been drowned in your own loud and miserable voice, complaining about the life that you are living?

Maybe He has been knocking for a long time, and you wanted to open that door but it is heavily padlocked with pride, jammed in hatred, and stuck because of worries?

Jesus may have long been standing in your door but are you too busy to open up because you have been chasing after what the world has to offer: power, pleasure, and possessions? (1 John 2:16 “For everything in the world–the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does–comes not from the Father but from the world.”)

Or maybe, you have let Him inside your home, but you were much like Martha, being busy doing the right things except giving Him time and doing His will? (Luke 10:40-42)

As Christian mothers, we have to clearly hear when God is knocking. In fact, we should not even hear Him knock, because He should be inside our hearts and homes already. His place in our own heart and families should be clear to us, to our family members, and more importantly to Him, as we should live our lives in worship of Him.

If God is knocking on your door now, the best way to open it is by kneeling down to pray. Pray to adore Him, thank Him for the many blessings in your life, ask for forgiveness of your sins, and seek His will and divine guidance. Keep the door of your hearts open, and let Him stay by devoting time for prayer and reading the word of God. Abide in His commands and do what is good, and teach children to be like Him — who despite His power, still respects us enough to knock first before trying to come into our hearts.

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to read John 14:23-27 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: Is God knocking on the door of your heart right now, or has He already found a home in yours?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, I praise and thank you for being the wonderful God that you are. Thank you for always extending your hand to me in spite of my sinfulness. Sorry for the times I fail to let you into my heart, and allow me starting today to give you your rightful throne in my heart and in my home. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
