Daily Devotional, Sept 9, 2023 Like an Energizer Bunny

"So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up." Galatians 9:6

The Energizer Bunny is one of the iconic commercials of yesteryears. The pink mechanical bunny just kept on going on and on and on, showing that the battery brand could keep electronics functioning for a very long time just like a tireless, energetic rabbit.

As Christians, we are encouraged to be full of zeal and energy to love others and do what is right. To never tire of doing the right things because obedience is pleasing to God. In His letter to the Galatians, St. Paul encouraged the church there to remain righteous “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” Galatians 9:6

There are times though that this becomes challenging especially when others do not respond the same way, or when it seems like our efforts are in vain. But just like what he said to the Galatians, Apostle Paul emphasized to the Corinthian church that endeavoring to remain good comes with blessings from above: “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 5:58

And yes, we should not lose heart even if it is just a handful of us who are doing good. We should remain focused on obedience, righteousness, and carrying out the Lord’s will in our lives. In the Book of Genesis, Abraham kept on asking the Lord if he would spare a city if he finds 50 righteous people there, and the Lord said to Abrahan that yes He will spare the place from being ruined if there are 50 righteous people there. Abraham kept on asking the Lord what if the number was lower than 50 and so on, will He still spare the land from destruction, and the Lord said yes even if it were just 10 people. In Genesis 18:32 He said “For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it,” which goes to show that as long as there are people who are doing good, the Lord will spare a city that is otherwise bound for punishment and destruction.

We should also remember that the Lord promises to sustain us, and power us through as we live the purpose He has for us. He is our spiritual energizer that will strengthen us to do righteous things, because righteousness comes from Him. In the Book of Isaiah, it is said that those whose hope is in the Lord ” will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”(Isaiah 40:31)

Doing what is right may require a lot of heart and effort. But if we do the right things to only please the Lord, the load becomes much lighter, and easier to carry day by day: “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Isaiah 40:29-31 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: Are you getting tired of doing the right things? Why?

Conversation with the Lord: Almighty Father, thank you for promising to power me to remain righteous and obedient to Your will. May I always remember that I am doing the right things not to please anyone else, but only you and you alone. Amen
