Daily Devotional, Sept 14, 2023 Tireless Kindness

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up" (Galatians 6:9)

It is amazing to see someone who is tirelessly kind, especially to people who may not be able to appreciate nor return the favor. Take for example pre-school teachers who patiently answer every little question, and accede to numerous trivial requests of their pupils. Their kindness powers through the children’s obnoxiousness, shyness, tantrums, and even their own personal circumstances.

Now compare this with our patience level as mothers of preschoolers. Sometimes, when we are not feeling well, are too tired, or have many things to do and think of, we easily get irritated with our own kids when they are rowdy and uncooperative. So aren’t preschool teachers amazing, given their consistency in showing grace and goodness to their students?

Christians like us are called to have the same level of energy in showing kindness, love and patience to others. In his letter to the Galatian church, Apostle Paul urged everyone to remain steadfast in showing goodness to all: “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:9-10).

As human beings though, we have the tendency to get burnt out especially if it seems that our efforts do not bear fruit. For instance, if the person whom we show kindness to still remains to be inconsiderate, unwholesome, and selfish. The Gospel of Luke says though that we should remain consistently kind and forgiving, as it is our Lord who will be pleased with our actions: “But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great” (Luke 6:35)

At the end of the day, we are being called to love one another. No matter how unlovable others are, we should learn to respect them and be kind. We should be compassionate to everyone and we should be this way not because we want to show everyone that we are good. Instead, we should do it to please our Heavenly Father who commands us to love our neighbor as ourselves.
