He delights in you

Daily Devotional, Oct 7, 2023 He delights in you

"He brought me out into a broad place; he rescued me, because he delighted in me." Psalm 18:19

During school programs, I could not help but watch the faces of fellow parents who are so delighted (and almost tearing up) watching their children perform. The pride, joy, and love are seen in their eyes, as their respective children go about their dance routine or song number.

Like a parent beaming in happiness to see their child, our Loving Father is also delighted in us. He is overjoyed to watch us live our lives, but not because we are righteous but because He is, and because we are His children. (“The LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.” Psalm 147:11)

And just as a parent would treat his child with a reward after performing well, our Heavenly Father is also more than glad to show us how much He is delighted with us. In one of David’s popular Psalms, the warrior king recounted how he felt God’s lovingkindness: “You have prepared a table for me in front of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows” (Psalm 23:5).

No matter how unworthy we see ourselves, the fact that we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior only means that we are part of God’s family. He is not a one-facet parent that only shows His terror side. He is great, generous, merciful, kind and loving. If we can love our own children unconditionally, how much more can our Heavenly Father, who has the biggest heart of all, love us?

Our personal relationship with Jesus Christ is a guarantee that our Heavenly Father delights in us, and will not withhold good things from us. Let us take comfort in the words of Psalm 84:11 that underscores his pleasure in showering us with his unending grace: “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.”

Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Zephaniah 3:17 andPsalm 147:1-14 to dig deeper on today’s topic.

Reflection Question:Can you recall the recent instances when God showed His delight in you? How did those experiences make you feel toward our loving Creator?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, I praise and thank you for being the loving and gracious Lord that you are. I am so blessed to be part of your family, and I will do my best to live a life that is pleasing to you. Amen.
