Daily devotional: A promise is a promise

The promise of the cross is that we would never have to experience difficulty. Its promise is that we are never to go through pain alone, without any hope. The cross is Jesus’ actual proof that He will be with us in all our struggles. That He will hold our hand and never abandon us through it all.

1 Peter 5:9-10
1 Peter 5:9-10

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Jesus’s hand is indeed ours to hold through tough times. Ours to grip in times of fear. And ours to cling onto so we could stand up again and move forward.

“The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all;” Psalm 34:19

God’s deliverance may not always take place by the immediate removal of our troubles, instant solutions to our problems, or outright healing. It could also come through a strengthened heart, spirit, and faith that could muster not just today’s grief, but also future challenges. Indeed we will never have to suffer alone.

Thank you for reading our devotional today. Kindly read 1 Peter 5:9-10 for a deeper dive into our topic.

Reflection Question: Do you try to reflect on the reasons why some of your prayers have yet to be answered? In hindsight, were there previous unanswered prayers that have turned out to be for your greater good?

Conversation with the Lord:  Heavenly Father, help me to trust in your good plans as I await your response to my prayers. Help me have a heart that is confident in your love for me. Amen.
