Daily devotional: Even the Shards

When Jesus invited us to come to Him, He asked us to come fully to Him — all broken parts of us included. He encourages us to bring over all our hurts, all our pains — even the broken shards of our hearts shattered by grief.

Matthew 11:28-30
Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

In His love for us, He even asks us to bring our guilt and shame caused by our own sinful choices. And once we heed His invitation. Once we have learn from Him by following His ways, we will start to feel peace amid the pain. Even amid the struggles.

“Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that He may have compassion on Him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.” Isaiah 55:7

And as we grow our faith and hold on to the hope and mercy that only He can give, our hearts– will in His own perfect time– will begin to heal.

Thank you for reading our devotional today. Kindly read Psalm 103:8-12 for a deeper dive on today’s topic.

Reflection Question: Do you bring your “all” to God when you come to Him or do you find yourself curating your emotions, and not bringing over all the grief and hurts that you have? What keeps you from bringing over the hurts to Him, and how might your outlook change if you knew that He asks us to fully come to Him?

Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you that you do not ask us to curate our emotions and pretend that we are okay when we are not.Thank you for telling us not to be ashamed of coming to you, even if most of the bad things that happened to us were all the result of our sinful choices. Help me be more confident to come to you, Lord. Amen.
