Daily devotional: Honing Character

Whenever we feel like things are not going our way. When we think that God does not answer our prayers. May we always remember that God is much more interested in honing our character than giving us what we want.

Hebrews 12:6
Hebrews 12:6

“But God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:10-11

A Father’s Discipline

As our Heavenly Father, He will not think twice about disciplining us. Nor will He regret allowing us to take the bitter pill, if it is what’s needed for us to live a peaceful and fulfilling existence.

May we have the grace to see beyond unanswered prayers, and realize reasons why we do not get what we have prayed for.

“Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11

Thank you for reading our devotional today. Kindly read Romans 5:3-5 for a deeper dive into our topic.

Reflection Question: Do you try to reflect on the reasons why some of your prayers have yet to be answered? In hindsight, were there previous unanswered prayers that have turned out to be for your greater good?

Conversation with the Lord:  Heavenly Father, help me to trust in your good plans as I await your response to my prayers. Help me have a heart that is confident in your love for me. Amen.
