We may have been warned by our Savior that our life will not be free from troubles, but He also assures us that His goodness will follow us.
And so may we have the grace to stop focusing on the thought that hardships are making its way to us all the time. May we have the courage to not hesitate enjoying God’s blessings just because we are afraid to rejoice.
Just as we are told to expect sorrows, we too should look forward to God’s goodness showered upon us. For our cups to overflow with God’s mercy and care.
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:5-6
May we have the faith to focus on the thought that blessings are sure to come. Let us train our hearts to believe that experiencing God’s goodness is something that every Christ follower should expect. And we will have this outlook because our Lord, in His infinite goodness and mercy, does not discriminate in bestowing blessings.
“For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” Matthew 5:45b
Let us treasure in our hearts the truth that our Heavenly Father will never withhold goodness to those who love and fear Him. He longs to be gracious to all of us.
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Psalm 84:11
Thank you for reading through our devotional today. I invite you to ponder on Psalm 23 and Isaiah 30:18 to dig deeper on today’s topic.
Reflection Question: Do you hesitate to bask in the Lord’s goodness because you are afraid He will take it away, or dark times are looming? What past blessing or deliverance can you remember, which could prove that God’s goodness is overflowing in your life and that it is okay to enjoy it?
Conversation with the Lord: Heavenly Father, thank you that you shower us with your goodness and mercy, even during the times we do not deserve your love at all. Thank you for overlooking all our failures. Thank you for allowing us to experience and inviting us to linger in your love. May we have the confidence to stay and relish your blessings and presence. Amen.
